A FAHU is designed to supply air at off coil temperature:

DB/WB= 12°C/10°C and air flow rate of 50,000 cfm

Air enters the above FAHU at 2 different states as below:

1) DB/WB=35°C/19°C

2) DB/WB=35°C/34°C

What is the cooling load and condensate flow rate in each of the
two states above?

Solution:
We can determine the properties of the air at all sates
from the below link for psychrometric calculations:

http://www.sugartech.co.za/psychro/index.php

Air properties at off coil DB/WB= 12°C/10°C

h KJ/kg 𝝎 𝑘𝑔𝑤 /𝑘𝑔𝑎 𝜗 𝑚3 /𝑘𝑔

29.26 0.0068 0.816

𝒎∗𝒂 = 50,000 cfm = 23.6 𝑚3 /𝑠

1) When the air at the inlet is DB/WB=35°C/19°C
h KJ/kg 𝝎 𝑘𝑔𝑤 /𝑘𝑔𝑎 𝜗 𝑚3 /𝑘𝑔
53.54 0.0071 0.882
Cooling required for the state 1 is

23.6 𝑚3 /𝑠
𝒎𝒂 × ∆𝒉 = × (53.54 − 29.26) KJ/kg
0.882 𝑚3 /𝑘𝑔

=649.7 kW=185 TR

Condensate flow rate for the state 1 is

23.6 𝑚 3/𝑠
𝒎∗𝒂 × ∆𝝎 = 0.882 𝑚3/𝑘𝑔 × (0.0071 − 0.0068) 𝑘𝑔𝑤 /𝑘𝑔𝑎

= 0.008 𝑘𝑔𝑤 /𝑠= 8 𝒈𝒘 /𝒔

2) When the air at the inlet is DB/WB=35°C/34°C
h KJ/kg 𝝎 𝑘𝑔𝑤 /𝑘𝑔𝑎 𝜗 𝑚3 /𝑘𝑔
122.5 0.034 0.92

Cooling required for the state 2 is

𝟐𝟑. 𝟔 𝒎𝟑 /𝒔
𝒎∗𝒂 × ∆𝒉 = × (𝟏𝟐𝟐. 𝟓 − 𝟐𝟗. 𝟐𝟔) 𝑲𝑱/𝒌𝒈
𝟎. 𝟗𝟐 𝒎𝟑 /𝒌𝒈
=2,392 kW= 680 TR

Condensate flow rate for the state 2

23.6 𝑚 3 /𝑠
𝒎∗𝒂 × ∆𝝎 = 𝟎.𝟗𝟐 𝒎𝟑/𝒌𝒈 × (𝟎. 𝟎𝟑𝟒 − 𝟎. 𝟎𝟎𝟔𝟖) 𝒌𝒈𝒘 /𝒌𝒈𝒂

= 0.7 𝑘𝑔𝑤 /𝑠=700 𝒈𝒘 /𝒔
