How Should Teacher Encourage Young Learners in Reading Class
By: Dekawati Dwi Saputri 1601050087
Teacher will always looking for ways to learn how to motivate students to love reading. We
know that many rewards that we can get from reading, but many children still cringe at the thought of
reading. How can we change it? Below are ways to encourage young learners in reading class:

The first is trying to make fun the activity. Young learners like to move, so we can use some
activities that make them move. For example with inviting the young learners to play a game related
to the material or inviting them to sing and dance which of course related with the material too. This
fun activity have to found in the beginning of the learning process. Because if they are interested with
the beginning activity, most likely they will excited in the whole learning activity.

The second is using the appropriate strategy. When we teach for first grade students, the
strategy used will be different to teach the 5th grade students. So choose the appropriate strategy and
method to teach according to the target. The first grade students are the students that haven't read
fluently, so if the first grade students are thaught to read the long text it will useless and the students
will get stress. The first grade should be thaught how to read a word well.

The third is choosing the media that can motivate their desires to learn English. Young learners
like to studying by something that they like. So, let our students to bring materials that they like to
enjoy the reading class, whether it is football results, recipes or song lyrics, use these as a springboard
for discussion.

Reading is beneficial process and can be enjoyed by students and teacher alike. With the
reading approach with the aim of having fun in the learning process will be reflected by students.
