MIDTERMS ACTIVITY #2: I SUPPORT WHAT I BELIEVE:
ON THEORIES OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
Religion teaches doctrines, beliefs and spiritual values to give life meaning and
shape ones identity. And when someone is compelled with such teachings it becomes
evident that as they go deep with it, these people start to practice behavioral patterns
which they believe to be ethical and moral. Influencing societal norms to distribute their
holy will.
One of the great contributions I believe is the mindset pass within these religions,
the origin and doctrines that they practice which reflects heavily on how they live and
how it manifested their way of reasoning. In India Islam is widely practice that their
architecture is engrave with calligraphy of their own teaching as well as Buddhism with
the chakras, Hinduism with their sensual portrayal of life, and Christianity with their
sculpted figures from the bible to worship etc. They might have different orientation but
they all share common value which is hope that bonds their will to have faith, find
happiness and overcome death. Salvation as they call it is the belief in which people get
saved if they meet the standards listed by God/Gods and whoever doesn’t, gets thrown
to hell and gets torture for the rest of his/her life in different versions. It work really well
before the war but later has become less appreciated as the world started heavily
corrupting men by their own desires.
Talking from observation there is one religion that practices Christianity, I think
that goes well with globalization despite the criticism they get. They believe in God
named Jehovah and call themselves witnesses. They go to different places to preach
and held global events to spread the word and gets people to be baptized. And with
modernity they put themselves online for people to visit their site called jw.org and
provide biblical contents, videos, articles and bibles with over a hundred translations for
people to download it freely. Jehovah’s Witnesses has been around 1870s and has just
been preaching around the globe ever since founded by Charles Taze Russell in
Pittsburgh.
As the world is in chaos, religion offers peace and hope on whoever seeks it,
finds strength within as well as comfort. Elevating their state of mind as well as their
beliefs. For many years it manifested the way people think, rationalize and reason out
uncertain events. It may have its fair share of mystical claims nonetheless it greatly
impacted and globalized the world.

3. SOCIAL AND CULTURAL FACTORS- India and China had strong social
attachments to having large families. In the developed world, smaller families are
the norm.

“My mom brought us to Canada because she thinks its for the best. There are a lot of
opportunities here and its easier to get a job and earn money.”
“Canada is one of the most diverse country in the world. Its immigrant-friendly and very
adjustable , perfect for us newly immigrants to live in.”
“I’ve been given a lot of benefits in Canada. One of the things is free healthcare, which means I
don’t get to pay for checkups, or prescription drugs or getting treated or something.”
What are the different pains you’ve experienced when you migrated?
“One of the things that I struggled at was adjusting in Canada. I really didn’t had friends at first
because I wasn’t fully adjusted. I was very introverted in the Philippines and people are so much
different in Canada, but when I got used to Canada I got comfortable and became social with
people. I even became more extroverted here than I was in Philippines."
Reflection:
Canada is one of the largest country on earth, with their free health care, theres no
doubt that people wanted to migrate there as much as they can. Migrating is a tough decision
to consider if someone is not used to the idea, given that parents want whats best for their
child they acknowledge the possibility of risky consequences and plan ahead to anticiplate
situations for fast recovery. While everything seems to be perfect migrating to a new country,
there would still be different bounces of longing for the things that people have grown up to,
while environment changes people in different aspects of their lives, it is a chance to think
deeply of survival; a choice to go back or a choice to stay and go deep with being an immigrant.
