    11kV SWITCHGEAR VT CALCULATION

    A) General Data : -

    i) System Voltage , kV = 11kV

    ii) System Fault current , If = 25 kA for 3 Sec.

    iii) VT manufacturer = M/s. Tesar, Italy


    (for S/S J1 & J2)

    M/s. Risho, Japan


    (for S/S J3 & J4)

    B) Lead Resistance Calculation ( R L ) : -

    The lead length from VT secondary to relay = 5 Meters

    2.5 Sq.mm Cable

    From Manufacturer's table ,

    With a size of 2.5 Sq.mm cable the lead = 7.41 Ohms/kM


    resistance at 200C
    = 0.00741 Ohms/Meter

    Temperature co-efficient of resistance ( a 20 ) = 0.00393

    Lead Resistance , RL at 750C = R20 [ 1 + a 20 ( T2 - T1 ) ]

    For 5 Meters , R20 = 0.03705 Ohms

    Therefore RL at 750C = 0.045 Ohms

    I) 11kV - IDT Incomer Circuits : -

    VT Ratio = 11kV 110V

    Class of accuracy = Class 0.5

    Vector Group = Y - Y

    Rated Burden = 30 VA

    Actual Burden On VT Secondary : -

    1) Secondary ( Y - Y ) :

    1.1) VT Monitoring relay - MVAP 22 = 6.35 VA

    1.2) Power Factor Control Relay - NOVAR 315 = 7 VA

    1.3) KWhr - Prometer = 2 VA

    1.4) BCU - REF 545 = 0.5 VA

    Total Burden = 15.85 VA

    1.5) Lead Burden :

    The secondary current / phase based on the above VA burden .

    IVT = Connected VA Burden / Phase


    110V / 3

    = 15.85
    110V / 3

    = 0.250

    Hence lead burden = 2 x IVT2x RL

    = 2 x 0.25 2 x 0.045
    = 0.006 VA

    Hence total connected burden = 15.85 + 0.006 = 15.856 VA

    Required burden = 15.856 VA


    Burden provided by the manufacturer = 30 VA

    Hence VT Burden is adequate

    II ) 11kV - Outgoing Feeder Circuits With Metering : -

    VT Ratio = 11kV 110V

    Class of accuracy = Class 0.5

    Vector Group = Y - Y

    Rated Burden = 30 VA

    Actual Burden On VT Secondary : -

    1) Secondary ( Y - Y ) :

    1.1) VT Monitoring relay - MVAP 22 = 6.35 VA

    1.2) KWhr - Prometer = 2 VA

    1.3) BCU - REF 545 = 0.5 VA

    Total Burden = 8.85 VA

    1.4) Lead Burden :

    The secondary current / phase based on the above VA burden .

    IVT = Connected VA Burden / Phase


    110V / 3

    = 8.85
    110V / 3

    = 0.139

    Hence lead burden = 2 x IVT2 x RL

    = 2 x 0.139 2 x 0.045
    = 0.002 VA

    Hence total connected burden = 8.85 + 0.002 = 8.852 VA

    Required burden = 8.852 VA


    Burden provided by the manufacturer = 30 VA

    Hence VT Burden is adequate

    III ) 11kV - Capacitor Bank Feeders : -

    VT Ratio = 11kV 110V

    Vector Group = Y - Y

    Rated Burden = 30 VA

    Actual Burden On VT Secondary : -

    1) Secondary ( Y - Y ) :

    1.1) VT Monitoring relay - MVAP 22 = 6.35 VA

    1.2) Over Voltage & Under Voltage = 0.2 VA

    1.3) BCU - REF 545 = 0.5 VA

    Total Burden = 7.05 VA

    1.4) Lead Burden :

    The secondary current / phase based on the above VA burden .

    IVT = Connected VA Burden / Phase


    110V / 3

    = 7.05
    110V / 3

    = 0.111

    Hence lead burden = 2 x IVT2 x RL

    = 2 x 0.111 2 x 0.045
    = 0.001 VA

    Hence total connected burden = 7.05 + 0.001


    = 7.051 VA

    Required burden = 7.051 VA


    Burden provided by the manufacturer = 30 VA

    Actual Burden On VT Secondary : -

    1) Secondary ( Y - Y ) :

    1.1) VT Monitoring relay - MVAP 22 = 6.35 VA

    1.2) BCU - REF 545 = 6 VA ( 12 x 0.5 )


    ( For outgoing feeders without metering )

    1.3) BCU - REF 545 = 0.5 VA

    Total Burden = 12.85 VA

    1.4) Lead Burden :

    The secondary current / phase based on the above VA burden .

    IVT = Connected VA Burden / Phase


    110V / 3

    = 12.85
    110V / 3

    = 0.202

    Hence lead burden = 2 x IVT2 x RL

    = 2 x 0.2022 x 0.045
    = 0.004 VA

    Hence total connected burden = 12.85 + 0.004 = 12.854 VA

    Required burden = 12.854 VA


    Burden provided by the manufacturer = 30 VA

    Hence VT Burden is adequate
