We, the Freshmen of Eastern Samar State University under the CWTS
program of the NSTP were required to attend a seminar regarding on the Training for
our community immersion. The event was organized and facilitated by our instructors
with the help of the FCO officers. We were formally welcomed by the NSTP
President Dr. Rolando Capito. Then we were introduced to our dear guest speaker,
Mr. Xylan Kirby D. Belanique.
The theme was “NSTP Moving towards progressive community” and the
purpose of the seminar was to give students a concrete knowledge and concepts
about the community immersion. Both the speaker and the facilitators of the event
aimed to enlighten us students on what are really the things that we should know
before we take part in the community immersion.
The topics discussed were as follows: The five phases of the Community
Immersion Process, Parts of a project proposal for NSTP immersion projects, stages
of community immersion, the extension creed, do’s and don’ts of community
immersion and the things to remember, things to avoid, significance of monitoring,
Tools needed for monitoring and their purposes, evaluation of projects,
documentation and monitoring.
The event was great. It was well-managed and handled. The overall seminar
was good, it fulfilled the purpose that it was trying to achieve and it helped us be
aware before we take part in Community Immersion. The speaker has given us
adequate information.
The delay of the seminar, the inattentiveness of some students and also the
way the FCO handled other students. That was I think the things that are noticed by
the most of the freshmen. But overall it was indeed a successful event.
