5.0 RISK CONTROLS

1.

5.1 PROCEDURES
Awcon Integrated Management System includes procedures which detail the standard methods which
must be implemented when undertaken any activity to ensure the task is managed in a manner which
does not compromise Health, Safety, Environment, Quality, Employee Relations or Technical Standards.
These procedures have been referenced through the SWMS where they are applicable and are included
in listed in Section 4.0 References. These documents must be understood and complied with by all
personnel involved with this work

5.1.1 Risk Control Processes

In addition to the SWMS the additional risk control processes need to be implemented to enable
completion of this activity.

Risk Assessment – If the work being undertaken involves the requirement for personnel to work at
heights, a determination should be made based on the conditions as to whether a specific risk
assessment should be completed.

Risk Assessments should be undertaken prior to conducting works.

Green-lift Cranage checklist

Lift Study

Job Safety Environment Analysis (JSEA) – A JSEA must be prepared before the task is undertaken. The
JSEA should reflect those hazards and control identified in the SWMS as well as issues specific to the
location and environment when the work is to be performed.

Job Safety Environment Analysis should be performed in accordance with HS02 Job Hazard
Analysis.

On the Job Hazard Identification Processes – Starguards & Near Hit/Hazard Reports are to be
completed throughout the duration of the job by employees and supervisors to monitor the hazard
identification and control implementation.

5.1.2 Mandatory PPE

When determining PPE requirements consideration reference should be made to the requirements of
HS 04 Personal Protective Equipment. The following minimum PPE is required for all workplaces.

 Safety Helmet (AS/NZS 1801)

 Safety Glasses (AS/NZS 1337 and AS 1067.1 Sunglasses)
 Gloves (AS/NZS 2161.1)
 Safety Boots (AS/NSS 2210.1)
 Hearing Protection (AS/NZS 1269)

 Long Sleeve reflective Shirt and reflective Trousers (AS/ZNS 4501.1)

 Underground Compliant PPE

The following PPE is required to safety perform the task as details by this SWMS.

 No additional PPE identified.

When determining PPE requirements consideration reference should be made to the requirements
of HS04 Personal Protective Equipment.

5.1.3 Work Classification

This section refers to the legislated specific “High Risk Work” which requires a Safe Work Method
Statement to be developed as stated in QA12 – Safe Work Method Statement - Section 6.2.

This activity is deemed to be High Risk Work in accordance with and if:

 Where there is a risk of a fall from height greater than 1.8 metres or work within an excavation
greater than 1.5 metres.

5.1.4 Training and Competency

 Work at Heights (if work is being performed where there is a risk of falling greater than 1.8
metres.)

Any training required should be conducted in accordance with ER04 Training.

5.1.6 Permits and Clearances

The following permits and / or clearance are identified as being of general industry standard for the
performance of this type of work. Clarification with the client should be sought to determine if these or
any addition permits are required prior to the task being undertaken.

 Permit to Work

When determining permit and clearance requirements consideration reference should be made to the
requirements of HS 36 Permit to Work, HS 37 Hot Work, HS 38 Work at Heights and HS 08 Confined
Space.

5.1.7 Equipment & Material

The following equipment and material is identified as the minimum requirements for the completion of
this activity.
 Concrete Vibrator
 Screeds
 Shovels
 Trowels
 Curing oil
 Concrete Pump
