Perpetual Help: University of

The University of Perpetual Help System Dalta implemented a reading program called "BAIK" to enhance students' reading skills in English and Tagalog. The program has two parts: collaborative reading with classmates and assisted reading guided by teachers. Teachers coordinate with parents to continue the reading process at home. To motivate students, teachers provide booklets and allow students to choose stories to read. Funding from MOOE provides reading materials. Through this program, students' reading skills improved and they began using free time to read in the "Learners' Corner" instead of playing.

ACTION PLAN IN READING PROGRAM

Project: “BAIK” (Bawat Araw Isang Kwento)

Objectives: Enhance the interest of the pupils in listening and reading books.
Activate and reinforce other skills such as grammar, vocabulary,
pronunciation, and writing.
Date of Implementation: July 29, 2019

Introduction:

The project BAIK (Bawat Araw Isang Kwento)

was implemented last July 29, 2019 to help students
enhance their skills in reading English and Tagalog. It
has two parts: the collaborative wherein they could
read with their classmates and assistive where the
teacher guide and assess the student’s ability in
reading.
Teachers coordinate with the parents to have a
continuous process even their children are not in
school. To make the students be motivated, teachers
provide booklets with different stories and allow them
to choose what they want to read. Using the fund from
MOOE, we provide different materials that can be
used for Project BAIK.
Through this project, we saw the improvements of our students when it comes to
reading, either English or Tagalog. It became a way for them to be practiced that
instead of playing using their vacant times, they go to the “Learners’ Corner” and read.

Comments: Teachers’ should provide different materials that are suitable for their needs and
way of learning.
