Chapter II: Project Description

“Education equals awareness and awareness equals change and Change is equals to progress”
Nelson Mandela. Being equipped with proper school supplies is essential to academic success.
However, many school-aged children in the chosen islands of Dagupan City are lacking school
supplies and education has taken a backseat due to the pandemic and great family needs such as food
and utilities.
The purpose of this project is to extend assistance to the students from day care to high school
to have school materials that will play a big role in preparing them to be successful in the upcoming
school year. We choose schools from the Island community of Dagupan because these schools are
one of those schools that have high enrolled students in Dagupan City. The school supplies that we
will provide are basic needs such as pencils, notebooks, papers, crayons, sharpener, and envelope. We
want to implement this proposal because we want to lend a hand to those children with dreams. We
will sooner become an educator and we know that school supplies are essential and kids can't learn
properly without having it. This proposal conforms to the DepEd Mission where administrators and
staff, as stewards of the institution, ensure an enabling and supportive environment for effective
learning to happen, and family, community, and other stakeholders are actively engaged and share
responsibility for the developing life-long learners. We do this project because we believe regardless
of their family’s income or racial/ethnic identity, children having adequate school supplies can
drastically help pave a path to a successful future.
For the distribution of school supplies, we're going to the chosen schools to give those
materials and the teacher will distribute the school supplies to their students. To fulfill the goal of the
project, the budget proposed based on the school supplies needed is amounting to ₱28, 924. We made
Plan A, B, C, and D for this project. Plan A is a partnership, partnerships with some institutions,
organizations, or foundations that have the same goal as our project. Plan B is from donations or from
the fund of the Education Society. Plan C is crowdfunding where we're going to use the internet to
connect with potential funders. If we don't reach the proposed budget from that plan we will propose a
Webinar Series, a fundraiser for EdukAction: Giving School Supplies project.

Chapter III: Project Rationale

Education is a human right and a crucial resource. The right to education is a fundamental
human right. Every individual, irrespective of race, gender, nationality, ethnic or social origin,
religion or political preference, age or disability, is entitled to a free elementary education. It is our
fundamental human right and essential for the exercise of all other human rights. It promotes
individual freedom and empowerment and yields important development benefits. Education is a
powerful tool by which economically and socially marginalized adults and children can lift
themselves out of poverty and participate fully as citizens. There are children who do not attend
schools, these children find themselves disadvantaged. Without access to learning, they become
trapped in the generational cycle of poverty suffered by their families and those before them. Without
the tools for a standard education, schools cannot keep students engaged.
We chose this kind of project which is “Giving School Supplies in Island Schools” to help
children who cannot afford to buy their school supplies. We chose pre-school and elementary-high
school because mostly those ages need the right materials to develop their skills such as Fundamental
skills (writing, reading, coloring, etc.), understand (because they are still children so for example Red
apple, they will not know that apple is red if there is no color, and learn (For example, pencil and
paper they learn to write and draw). In short, they are just beginning to explore their learning journey
when there are no school supplies. There may be things that are not developed in them. We believe
that there are children who learn better, especially those in elementary grades who are just starting to
learn, they cannot learn to write without pencil and paper. They cannot learn to color without crayons.
When they arrive in Grade 4-6, they should have enough knowledge in that grade therefore we avoid
late skills development. Basic needs like pencils, pens, paper, and textbooks help students engage in
lessons, as they gain knowledge, they can bring back to their community to improve overall welfare.
Projects in school can translate into better lives for families in extreme poverty. Education and its
resources encourage a lifetime of problem-solving for young learners.
As of now, the situation of schools in the Barangay Island is that they renovate the classroom
facilities because it's been too long and dangerous to all students and facilitators of that place, then
now it's durable at safe not like before that the classroom has no excitement. We all know that a child
is encouraged to study when the classroom is relevant to their ages. Schools there is just beside the
river there are many establishments around the school and there are also squatters. Which is have a
chance for a student to choose to go to the places and skip their studies, they are still young so they do
not yet know the importance of studying and they also start and want to explore many things because
of this situation. There are also students who are in the Middle Class but mostly low-class students are

studying at this school and the number of students who are absent is increasing due to the lack of
study materials. The school also lacks equipment in teaching, the teacher uses mostly Manila paper,
and they also lack books and chairs in the classroom. We also have a member of this project who was
experienced with having a lack of school supplies and equipment, especially those students who have
poor situations and life. Not all students who study afford to buy complete school supplies.
The purpose of this project is to help the students who cannot afford to buy a school supply.
The school supplies that we provide are the basic needs such as pens, pencils, papers, crayons and
notebooks. As a future educator, we decide on this kind of project because we want to ensure that all
students, especially to our target grade, have a good and better education by providing free school
supplies to them. We want to provide opportunities to them, especially students who are just
underprivileged living. We want to give light to them to give them a better life in the future.
Our project required the area because many children cannot afford to buy their school
supplies, the population of Island Schools is also large because it is a public school and we all know
that public school is a way for students to study for free. Students who are unable to study in higher
schools. It is supported by the government; they pay taxes and other fees so that a student can study
for free. What will happen in the area before our project implements is that we will be able to give
opportunities to students to study with adequate school supplies, meaning we will be able to give
them a good learning experience.
This project, Giving School Supplies, was created for the unprivileged youth that has a will to
continue their studies. This project aims to give them supplies they can use to complete their projects
and other requirements to comply and have better grades. As we face this pandemic, a lot of students
choose to have their distance learning in a modular way. In this, they need to study on their own as
they answer this module. With this, it is critical to have the right tools for school in order to succeed
academically. We also believe that academically prepared children have more self-confidence, self-
worth, and pride, which leads to higher grades. Education is indeed a powerful key to success.

Chapter IV: Project Beneficiaries

The Giving school supplies project aim to give support to the primary students from Island
Barangay The main targets of Giving School Supplies project as the beneficiaries are:

STUDENTS
Students who are enrolled in preschool, elementary and high school because they are the most
in need to have a complete essential in learning, in order for them to be prepared, learn and enjoy their
learning process. Due to lack of money, students could not afford to buy essentials for their learning
process, students who want to have their proper essentials to use in their learning process. Our
community project is helpful, it could give the students more and keep them motivated and enhance
their skills (fundamental skills) through having proper school supplies they needed in their learning
process. We all know that our project may not cater to all students in primary grades but then we will
do our best to provide the essentials of each student. We also know that there are a lot of good people
out there who are willing to support and provide something that can help us in achieving our goal.
PARENTS
Parents who are responsible for the needs of their children. But because of the pandemic and
not having enough money, parents are not able to give the essentials of their child’s academic needs.
This community project will help the parents to ease their financial problem. They can keep the
money instead of buying the essentials of their children.
TEACHERS
Teachers who are on to give the needs of their students. It helps the teachers to give and offer
the needs of their students and the teacher will lessen her worries on their students' learning process
because we are giving the proper essentials of the student. To help the students to be equipped with
what they need in order to have a better learning experience.

The said activities do complement each other in a way that they are related. We want to give
opportunities to those students who can’t have school supplies and at the same time handle a simple
program to know how we would help.

The said activities were feasible enough to implement. It requires a lot of effort but we're here
to help and we know we can do it. So therefore, it is feasible enough for us to do this project proposal.

Chapter VII: Project Management

It is assumed that each student plays a vital role in the success of a project. It is suggested to
form groups within the class to perform a specific task. The students may either be involved in the
preparation of the project, during the project implementation or the project post-assessment. Students
while accomplishing this chapter must be encouraged to choose among the groups created in which
they could contribute the most.
