LESSON 9. SETTING-UP COMPUTER NETWORKS LO
1. Install network cables
1.1 Plan cable routes in accordance with network design and actual installation site
C. Learning Competencies/ Objectives
1.1.1 Identify the tools used in making modular I/O and patch panel connections
(Write the LC Code for each)
1.1.2 Cite the benefits of using modular I/O and patch panel
materials in a network connections
II. CONTENT Network Cable Installation (Producing Modular I/O and Patch Panel Connections)

The students will identify the cable type used to connect the presented devices.
“Let’s Plan”
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson Students will be grouped into five. With the prepared plan by the teacher, the
students will lay-out a network cable installation for this floor plan. Ask a member of
each group to present their output. (At the end of the activity it is expected that the students
will use switch and 12 pieces of straight – through cable.)
IV. PROCEDURES
The teacher will present a PowerPoint presentation showing the following:

Illustration A
Ask: What type of cable and devices will be used if you want to extend the network
connection from the Technical Support Department going to the other rooms or
workplace areas? Why did you choose these materials?
“Spot the Difference”
C. Presenting examples/instances of the lesson The teacher will show the appropriate wire installation floor plan with the
use of modular I/O and patch panel.
D. Discussing new concepts and Practicing new
skills #1
Illustration B
Let the students compare their output with the showed appropriate wire installation floor
plan. Let them spot and list on the board the differences from the two illustrations (A & B).
“Think Positive”
Say: Proper cabling and choosing the right materials/devices for networking
eliminate risks in a workplace area. Modular I/O and patch panel are great
help to extend network connections neatly.
The teacher will show the different tools used in producing network cable installation.
Tools Functions
B. Cite the benefits of using modular I/O and patch panel through the following:
1. Poem
2. Jingle
3. Poster
Through paper presentation, give your ideas with the given situation. Then post it on the wall.
Let the students have “Gallery Walk”.
G. Finding Practical applications of
“The librarian asks you to put network connection in the library coming from the
Concepts and skills in daily living
computer laboratory. What are the materials that you will ask her to prepare and what
are the tools you will provide to create such network connection?”
How are modular I/O and patch panel connections useful in extending network
connections to the other rooms? How is proper selection of materials important in
H. Making generalizations and Abstractions about
the lesson creating network connection and proper cabling? (The teacher will prepare PowerPoint
presentation to firm up the discussion of the lesson.)
A. Make an organized network cable installation by means of installing or lay outing the
