Lab 4 Nodal, Mesh & Superposition

This document summarizes Lab 4 which involves using nodal analysis, mesh analysis, and superposition to analyze a circuit with multiple voltage sources. Students are asked to use these techniques to determine the mesh currents and nodal voltages in the circuit due to individual sources and all sources combined. They will also build and test the circuit, recording experimental measurements to compare with theoretical calculations.

Lab 4 ∶ Nodal, Mesh & Superposition

Pre - lab

You must answer the following questions prior to attending the

laboratory session. Your solution will be checked and marked
accordingly.
1. Use Mesh and Superposition techniques to determine the values of all Mesh
currents for the circuit shown in Figure 3.1.
2. Use Nodal and Superposition techniques to determine the values of all
Nodal voltages for the circuit shown in Figure 3.1.

Procedure

1. Build the circuit shown in the figure below:

Figure 3.1
2. Measure the labeled voltages and currents on the figure under the following
conditions:
a) When 10V supply on and 6V supply is short circuit. b) When 6V supply
on and 10V supply is short circuit.
c) Both 10V and 6V supplies on.

Then, fill these reading in the following tables:

3. Compare the theoretical and the experimental sets of results, and comment on
the differences between them (if any). Where you able to verify the superposition
principle?

4. Would there be a difference in the results if the DC supplies were killed by

setting their respective outputs to zero rather than completely disconnecting them
from the circuit? Explain and verify your answer by re-measuring any one of the
Mesh currents or Nodal voltages.
