4.1 Introductory Activity (5
minutes). Review on the length confidence interval(CI) and how to get the upper limit and lower
limit of the confidence interval

1. Divide the class into five groups.

2. Present the situation to students below.
A researcher wants to estimate the number of hours that 17-year old teens spend
watching television. A sample of 50 seventeen year old teens was observed to have a
4.2 Activity/Strategy (10 minutes). mean viewing time of 3 hours. The population is normally distributed with a population
standard deviation =0.5 hours. Find
a. the 95% confidence interval of the population mean
3. Let them find the CI and Identify Upper and Lower limit of CI by group.

Presentation of group outputs

a. What are the factors that affect the length of the confidence interval?
4.3 Analysis (10 minutes).
b. How can we get the length of the confidence interval?
c. Find the length of the confidence interval if the confidence level is 99%.
4.4 Abstraction (12 minutes). If a confidence interval for a parameter is L< <U then the length of the interval is
simply the difference in the two endpoints.
That is Length = U-L. or
L= + ( )< - ( ) or L = 2 ( )

A sample of 60 Grade 11 students’ ages was obtained to estimate the mean age of all
4.5 Application (13 minutes). Grade 11 students. = 17.3 years and the standard deviation x=0.8 years. Find the
length of confidence interval if the confidence level is 99%.
Answer the following.
1. What are the factors affecting the length of interval?

2. The mean scores of a random sample of 37 students who took a special test is 83.5.
4.6 Assessment (10 minutes).
If the standard deviation of the scores is 4.1, and the sample comes from an
approximately normal population, find the length of the confidence interval adopting a
confidence level of 95%.

Study in advance.
4.7 Assignment (5 minute).
Computing sample size using length of interval.
“Each time we face our fear, we gain strength, courage and confidence in doing”
4.8 Concluding Activity (2 minute).
