4.2 Activity The teacher demonstrates how to solve the Length of Confidence Interval if both the Lower
Limit and Upper limit were given.  After the short demonstration, the teacher will let the
students answer the rest of the questions by raising their hands if they already had the answer.

10 minutes A. Find the length of the confidence interval.

1. 0.355 < p < 0.470

2. 0.475 < p < 0.835
3. Upper confidence limit = 0.796
Lower confidence limit = 0.536
4. Upper confidence limit = 0.896
Lower confidence limit = 0.526

4.3 Analysis Sharing of Ideas:

1. How did you find the activity? (Enjoyable).

5 minutes
2. What What are the factors that affect the length of a confidence interval?

3. We subtract the Lower limit from the upper limit to find the confidence interval when
both limits are given. What do you think is the formula when both were not given?

DISCUSSION:
4.4 Abstraction
CONFIDENCE INTERVAL:
10 minutes Confidence Interval - In statistics, this refers to the probability that a Population parameter will
fall between a set of values for a certain proportion of times. A confidence interval is a range
with a lower limit and an upper limit used to estimate a population parameter. The lower and
the upper limit of the interval is within a certain level of confidence.

The general formula for the confidence interval for a large sample is:

Steps in computing the length of a confidence interval:

1. Determine the confidence coefficient;
2. Find the margin of error;
3. Lower confidence boundary;
4. Upper confidence boundary;
5. The length of the confidence interval is ____to ____.
6. LCl = UCL – LCL

Example 1: Compute and identify the length of the confidence interval.

Given: X =70, n = 100 , σ = 4, and 90% confidence level

4.5 Application
The teacher will present 3 problems on the board and will ask students randomly to
answer the questions about finding the length of the confidence interval. The
5 minutes students will then go to the board to answer the questions.

1. X = 30.5, n = 49, σ = 5 and 90% confidence interval

2. X = 45, n = 36, σ = 8 and 95% confidence interval
3. X = 60, n = 25 σ = 4 and 95% confidence interval

4.6 Assessment Instructions: Compute the length of a confidence

interval and write your answer in the space below.

4.8 Concluding Activity
The teacher will ask students the following questions.

1. What formula will be used if both limits were given?

Formula: LCI = UCL – LCL
2. What is the general formula for a confidence interval for a
large sample?

3. What are the steps in finding the confidence interval of a

population parameter?
 Determine the confidence coefficient;
2 minutes  Find the margin of error;
 Lower confidence boundary;
 Upper confidence boundary;
 The length of the confidence interval is ____to
____.
 LCl = UCL – LCL
