Basic Elements of a Poem

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the session the students are expected to:
a. Identify elements of a poem.
II. CONTENT:
A. Subject Matter: Module 4; Lesson 1
Basic elements of A Poem
B. References: English 7 Learners Manual
C. Materials: PPT, laptop, Lyrics of different song, Pictures
of Animals
III. PROCEDURE:
A. Review
The teacher will conduct a short review about the
difference of Noun Phrase and Verb Phrase.
B. Motivation
- The class will sing a song entitled “
*Teacher will ask the class:
 What do you call of the words group together in
the bracket?” (STANZA)
 How many lines are there in every stanza?
C. Lesson proper
A1: Activity
The class will sing a song entitled “
*Teacher will ask the class:
 What do you call of the words group together in
the bracket?” (STANZA)
 How many lines are there in every stanza?
 What have you observe in the different underlined
words?
 What is the message/ ideas of the poem?
A 2: Analysis
“FIND ME”
Mechanics
1. The class will be divided into 5 groups.
2. Each group will designate a leader and a
secretary.
3. Perform different TASK within 15 MINUTES.
TASK 1: You will be given list of songs, and
choose a song to perform in front that
contains Simile and metaphor in the
lyrics.
TASK 2: Identify the Simile and Metaphor from the
lyrics of the song performed by Group1
TASK 3: Make a short Dramatization, but some
dialogues should used Simile and
metaphor.
TASK 4: POEM ANALYSIS:
Underline sentences that uses Poetic
Devices and identify whether it is
SIMILE or METAPHOR.
Task 5: Answer the COMPARISON word problem.
(Who has the greater and lesser number
in the problem?)
4. Teacher will check outputs.
A3: Abstraction
1. What do you think is the significance of simile and
metaphor?
2. Who among you here can differentiate SIMILE
from METAPHOR?
3. Construct sentences using Simile and Metaphor.
A4: Application
A. Complete the following sentences using the
different pictures.
e.g.
1.

COLD LEMONADE is as refreshing as a dip in the _____________.

B. Using the powerpoint presentation, the class


will identify whether the sentence is a SIMILE
or a METAPHOR.
1. As slippery as an ell. SIMILE
2. He was a lion in battle. METAPHOR
IV. EVALUATION:
Identify the poetic devices in the paragraph below.
The world now is suffering from climate change. There might be days
when we feel freezing that we are like inside the refrigerator. Or feel so
hot as chili because our temperature reaches 41o Celsius. Temperature
changes abruptly like feelings or emotion. We should be a dictionary to
make remedy on saving our environment. Planet earth is our home.

V. ASSIGNMENT:
Please be prepared for your DECLAMATION piece tomorrow.
Whoever wants to present their declamation with props and costumes,
please prepare it ahead of time.
