Project Name: CarPooling

Date: Wednesday, October 28, 2020

o What is Carpooling?

Carpooling is the sharing of car journeys so that more than one person travels in a car, and prevents
the need for others to have to drive to a location themselves. By having more people using one
vehicle, carpooling reduces each person's travel costs such as: fuel costs, tolls, and the stress of
driving.

o Our Research

During our research phase we came upon many applications who have the same concepts, features
and functionalities. One of them and the most known is Uber that was created in America in 2009.
Other are Carma Pooling, Sidecar, Trees for Cars, and many other applications.

o Most Inspired Applications

 Uber
Uber matches passengers requesting rides with drivers based on the GPS location of the
passenger's phone. The app sends driver contact information to the passenger, and a text
when the driver arrives. Uber will quote fares and allow payment with credit card. The
passenger can leave a review to rate how well the ride goes. One feature that makes Uber
different from many other ride share apps is that there are levels, so users can request
everyday cars, taxis, SUVs, and black cars of increasing luxury.

 Carma Pooling
Carma differentiates itself as a carpooling app rather than ridesharing app. The app lets
users share commuting costs with neighbours and colleagues headed the same way. Riders
pay .20 per mile, standard, which means drivers don't make a profit. Because Carma drivers
simply use it on their way to and from work, they never need to detour to other
destinations. Once the trip starts, a timer on the app keeps track of the trip distance and
automatically pays the driver when the trip ends.

 Trees for Cars

Like many other ride share apps, Trees for Cars connects drivers and passengers. Where it
differs, is that it was designed by a homeless man named Leo Grand. Grand was given free
coding lessons during the course of several weeks, by a software engineer named Patrick
McConlogue. Grand's first move was to design an app to make ridesharing easier, in order to
decrease CO2 emissions. Trees for Cars one of the apps that doesn’t have a feedback system
to rate the rider. Also no messaging system to make the chat through the application.

o Summary

After check and examination of the top 4 carpooling applications, we found that each application
of them need to add more features in their application to let all consumer be happy and safe
using the app.
1. Messaging System
2. Feedback and Rating System
3. Profile Page
4. Number Adding
5. Connection System

In the result of our research we found that Uber doesn’t work except the user give the phone
number which will be posted for everybody meaning that it will be added to the profile and
every one can see the phone number, which I think most users or consumers don’t like to share
their phone number. That made us to make our app to access through emails. Also, Uber isn’t
safe for somebody, the cause is that no connection between users. To clarify, there are many
users whom be afraid to have a ride with person that they don’t know or they don’t have
information about them. So, connections are the solution, when anyone see mutual connection
with one whom know he/she will feel more safe and will see the feedbacks of their friends
maybe or the persons that they know whom gave feedbacks to this rider.

Also, after our research we found that Carma pooling and Trees for Cars don’t have a messaging
system in their application and profile pages for feedbacks, which make users feel unsafe. And
same problems like Uber when giving phone number to have a chat with rider.

o Our App

Our application “Carpooling” will contain messaging, feedback and connection systems which will
make our passengers feel safe and happy in their own test for our app. Also in our application a
passenger can pick from cars in the area based on profiles that include details like distance, quality
of the car, fare, rider reviews, and whatever other bio info the driver has included.
