PED 266: Educational Issues, Innovations and Technology

Free Education in the Graduate School

A good education is one of the most important things an individual can pursue. There are many
aspects of life that a complete education will affect a person. Having a high education meaning a
well-paying job, better opportunities, and a better life. It also makes a person smarter than
someone without one. On the other hand, Free education is education funded through
government spending or charitable organizations rather than tuition funding.

If I were in the congress, I would like to include Graduate school to be a free education. Because
granting free education up to the graduate school level will affect the social and economic
welfare of society. Our economy, has to do with financial status of the society both present and
future, it also has to do with the number of economically active individuals that are productive in
the work area. In this, a free education in might help the employee become more knowledgeable
in the field in which they work. Companies might also have opportunities to attract more clients
if a higher percentage of their employees have advanced degrees. Covering the cost of graduate
school courses could also serve as incentive for employees to work harder at their jobs. If an
employee wishes to continue their education, they should appeal to their employer and explain
how taking the course will improve their ability to do their job.

Nevertheless, there are some advantages in having a free education in the graduate school. First
is more lower-income students might reach graduation if there’s no tuition. Because some
students drop out because they do not have the ability to pay for their tuition. Getting rid of
tuition would eliminate this reason for not graduating. This would also serve to improve the
graduation in the graduate school rates, as fewer students would feel the need to drop to part-
time status or take a break from education for financial reasons. Second, students might have
more freedom to choose a major they enjoy. And last, more people would go to graduate school.
By negating the large bill of a graduate school we could see an increase in the number of
students able to attend in graduate school. This then creates a more well-educated workforce and
a population that has better critical thinking skills. This could lead to more innovation in all areas
of society.

It seems to me that free education in graduate school would lead to more educated people. More
educated people in the society leads to overall improvement in the quality of life in the society
and it would be beneficial to those who deserve it, as well as, to the society as a whole. Where
everybody is talking about equal and better opportunities, the prospects of a better future should
not be lost due to lack of equal opportunities for education.
