QUESTIONS:

1. What can you say about of these headlines?

ANSWER:

• In the headline "DepEd reviews ‘congested’ K to 12 curriculum" we can infer that the
Philippines needs to switch to a K to 12 curricula. The justification for this change is to
improve and modernize our educational competitiveness in comparison to that of other
developed nations, putting college graduates on an equal footing in their search for jobs in
the future, as well as making Filipino students more competitive around the world.

• In the headline "Group assails DepEd, cites 17 student suicide cases", I can say that suicide
shouldn't be associated with online or modular education. Yes, there have been suicides among
students, but we are unaware of the true circumstances surrounding these deaths or what the exact
causes were. So, in my opinion, we cannot blame Deped for these problems. Deped should not be
blamed for having modular or online distance learning because they only do this for our benefit so
that we won't lag behind other nations in learning and for the benefit of the future. Blaming one
another won't help us stop the Covid 19 virus's spread. Be a leader of positivity and let's all
understand one another. In this modern educational period, known as generation Z, when
technology is heavily used, I am aware that it is also challenging for us students to learn. How we
exert a great deal of effort to conform to the new standard, which is modular or online distance
learning. But the same goes for the professors and DePed, and that is one of the reasons why other
instructors don't lecture outside the parameters of a predetermined curriculum. As a result, we must
cooperate.

• In the headline "DepEd going ‘back to basics’ in curriculum review" According to reports, Deped
plans to concentrate on teaching the fundamentals of reading and mathematics to close major
learning gaps among schoolchildren who were isolated and received remote instruction for the first

two years of the pandemic. Schools are going "back to basics," investing in and revising essential
components of identities and programs to reflect what they have learned from the upheavals of the
previous two years, rather than going "back to normal." Five days of in-person instruction must have
been implemented in all public and private schools. Except for those who are using alternative
delivery methods, no school shall implement only blended or distance learning. By doing so, we
increase our effectiveness, reduce complexity, and lay strong foundations for achieving success and
thriving in the areas that are most important to us in a more efficient, long-lasting, and healthy
manner.

2. Do these reflect what are going on in our schools?

ANSWER:

Yes, it truly has an impact on our school. As of right now, we can declare that our curricula
are changing for the betterment of Filipino students' futures, assisting them in becoming
globally competitive and locating suitable employment. These headlines accurately reflect what
is happening in our schools, in part because the future and lives of the kids are important to society
and are therefore given prominence in our schools. Therefore, it is important to pay as much
attention to and take seriously the creation of a decent curriculum that can benefit everyone,
especially society's learners. We must help to develop a better curriculum and assist them in not
ignoring the more urgent issues like a lack of school buildings, an insufficient number of teachers,
low teacher salaries, a lack of learning materials and books, and corruption. Even though you are
struggling with this new norm, you are not the only one who is struggling. So, keep on moving.

3. Should the public know and be involved in the schooling of their citizens?

ANSWER:

Yes, the general public should be aware of and concerned about their children's education
since they are a member of a community where society, people, and places are all involved
and utilized to inform about issues that need to be addressed and improved. And that they
need to be informed of how their kids are doing, how their education is going, and what they
have learned from the lessons taught in the curriculum.

4. What are the implications of each headline to the classroom curriculum?

ANSWER:

• The first headline which is the K–12 implications can prepare students for entering the
workforce. The new curriculum has the advantage since it forces every student to be
enthused about the workforce and the program gives students the power to decide for
themselves.

• The second headline implies that there will be challenges in the teaching-learning process,
particularly when using a blended learning or online distance learning platform. Deped will

find it challenging to choose the right curriculum for the kids, particularly at this time of the
pandemic. Importantly, if they refuse to put the effort into learning anything new, such as
technology, it will be difficult for the students and teachers to change. Moreover, we weren't
sure of the causes of the suicide issues, so we shouldn't hold Deped or online learning
responsible for them. However, the problem or issues about suicide that is linked to online
distance learning or blended learning will have a significant impact on schools and students
so it must be addressed quickly so that DePed and the public know how to take action to
cope with this suicide issues associated with online or modular learning.

• The third headline implication is that some senior high school parents disagree with this
curriculum because they think it delays their children's graduation by two years. In addition
to the extra two years, private school tuition is very pricey. Public high schools have limited
access to books, wifi, and technology. However, the goal is to raise the linguistic,
mathematical, and scientific proficiency of Filipino students. The simplified curriculum will
make it possible for pupils to master competencies and better handle the lessons. Those
who leave school early due to stress over their workload should be somewhat addressed by
this. The curriculum will be enriched, learner-centered, and sensitive to regional needs.
