    YSEALI Media Literacy Follow-on Grant

    Dear YSEALI Team,

    I am as the leader of Buol Educare Institute would take the opportunity to apply YSEALI Media
    Literacy Follow-on Grant. The Project is The Series of Literacy Culture Campaign in Buol Regency with
    the theme "Sharpen Buol’s Generation Literacy Skills in the Digital Age"

    Project Background

    The funds will be used to continue Buol Educare Institute’s projects to promote literacy in Buol. In
    these last three years, Buol Educare Institute (BEI) Community has been promoting literacy in Buol.
    There were severals activities that have been held by BEI, such as holding workshop, seminar, book
    discussion and social activities to increase the awareness of people in Buol to love literacy activities.

    In 2016, The data showed that Buol is one of the regencies in Central Sulawesi that has the lowest
    index in education among 13 regencies (Pijar Buol, November 2017). This fact encourage BEI team to
    become more concerned on promoting literacy because we believe that literacy is the heart of
    education.

    In the beginning of 2019 BEI already plans their activity's project which is The Series of Literacy
    Culture Campaign in Buol Regency with the theme "Sharpen Buol’s Generation Literacy Skills in the
    Digital Age"

    The activity will be open with a Focus Group Discussion which will be attended by school principals,
    the government as well as the community of literacy and education activists in Buol Regency.
    Moreover, BEI will offer a roadshow to promote literacy to schools. Literacy activities will vary
    according to the level of school visited. On campus, high schools, we will hold a literacy workshop
    and in elementary school we will hold a story telling. In the end of the literacy series activities, the
    competition will be held to show the impact of the literacy project and encourage the literacy skills
    to Buol generation.

    Unfortunately, the projects should be postponed because of less funding. Hence, BEI team becomes
    more passionate and grateful after hearing the opportunity to get follow-on grant by YSEALI. We
    hope this grant can help BEI to continue the literacy project sustainably to build literacy culture in
    Buol.

    Brief Introduction of Buol Educare Institute

    Buol Educare Institute (BEI) was founded by Andi Asrawaty in 2016. In the second year Asra
    recruited her students to be part of the BEI team since less community could empowered the
    younger generation. Therefore, BEI focuses on promoting literacy culture in Buol regency.

    In the third year, the Buol Educare Institute had carried out various activities namely workshops,
    book discussion and other social activities. The funds obtained come from the business benefits of
    the English Language Course Services, the Asra English Course (AEC) and donations from parents of
    AEC students. In addition, the BEI also build a reading house by the collaboration with the Buol
    Regional Library and Archives Office.
    On November, 2018 BEI received the grants funding form Putra Daerah Membangun (PDM) of $500
    as one ofthe best 3rd of social enterprise in East Indonesia.
