Lesson 2: Skittles Sticks Date: January 20, 2021 Length: 37 mins.
January 22, 2021
Lesson Overview:
In this lesson students will be playing team games intended to develop their skills in sending
and receiving objects. The lessons activity will also be used to encourage fair play,
consideration of safety, and spatial awareness. I will first lead the class in a round of Simon
says, doing different repetitive exercises to warm up. Following our warmup, I will inform the
class that we will be playing skittles sticks and ask if anyone has played skittles before. I will
explain that it is played just like skittles, but instead of throwing balls to knock down bowling
pins, students will shoot balls at them using hockey sticks. There will be two teams on either
side of the gym with bowling pins set up at each end. Students will need to knock over all the
other teams' pins to win the game. The class will be given time to play skittles sticks before
they are asked to return their stick to be sanitized and line up to leave the gym.

Lesson Procedures:
Prep: Notes:
- Ask student to sanitize their hands before leaving the classroom
- Ask students to remain distanced as they go to the gym and wait
for instruction

Warm-up: (15 min.) Notes:

- I will briefly lead the class in Simon says for a warmup
• I will ask if everyone knows how to play and review the
rules before playing
• After a few minutes I will ask my student leader to lead
Simon says as I gather equipment for the main activity

Body: (20 min.) Notes:

Activity:
− I will ask the class if they know how to play skittles
− Inform students that we will be playing skittles sticks which is
the same but rather than throwing they will use hockey sticks
• I will explain that the class will be in 2 teams on either side
of the gym
• Student's goal is to use hockey sticks and dodgeballs to
knock down the other teams bowling pins
• They cannot pick up their pins if they have been knocked
down unless they did it themself accidentally
• They cannot stand directly in front of their bowling pins
to guard them from being hit (puppy guarding)
− Once a team has knocked down all the pins on their side of the
gym, we will reset the game and play again
− When starting the game over, ask some students to switch teams

Differentiation: Notes:
• If students are struggling to knock down all the pins, blow
the whistle after some time and count the pins still standing
to see who won

• Students will be asked if they enjoyed the activity and would
like to play again.
