The “Big One”: Expect the Unexpected

By:

Once in a blue moon, when we taught that the world is perfectly imperfect, a trial is yet to
challenge us. A shocking news caught my attention and woke up my senses. Iranian-born Dr. Keshe,
who runs the Keshe Foundation, claims a series of quakes between 6 to 8.3 magnitude in the last
month, were the beginning of the mega earthquake. Imagine 6 to 8.3 magnitude earthquakes, that’s
not a joke. So we need to take this so called “Big one” seriously. Who knows what can a mega
earthquake or the “big one” do. How can we prevent it, if it would come any time between now and
next autumn? How can we expect an unexpected mega earthquake called “big one”?

Earthquakes are movements in Earth’s crust. Faults are cracks in Earth’s crust between the

huge plates. Earthquakes usually happen along faults. But this mega earthquake is not because of a
simple fault. This mega earthquake is caused by the Hayward Fault, a long and lethal crack in the
Earth, that slices along the base of the Berkeley Hills and directly through the University of
California. And because the fault is located at California, this earthquake could split North and South
America and can cause mega tsunamis to America and Asia, killing 40 million people as it was said
by a London-educated nuclear engineer. Shocking? Scary? Yeah, it is. In fact, Dr. Keshe Claims it will
be the worst earthquake mankind has ever witnessed.

I know by now, some of you are already scared, but we can prepare for this upcoming
disaster. “Alam naman po natin ang panganib at kapahamakan na maaring idulot ng malakas na
paglindol sa buhay, ari-arian at kabuhayan ng ating mga mamamayan,” NDRRMC Executive Director
and Civil Defense Administrator Ricardo Jalad said. The NDRRMC or National Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management Council, helped people to be ready for this upcoming phenomena. And
the solution for that is NSED or the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill, also known as
#Pagyanig Challenge. It take part last September 28, 2016. The drill is based on a 7.2-magnitude
earthquake caused by the movement of the West Valley Fault. According to the Metro Manila
Earthquake Impact Reduction Study(MMEIRS), a powerful earthquake could cause widespread
destruction in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. As with every national earthquake drill, Rappler
and the Office of Civil Defense carry out a social media campaign to raise awareness on what to do
before, during, and after an earthquake. In the event of an actual crisis, those affected should be
prepared to survive without external help for at least 72 hours. After all, the country is no stranger
to natural calamities. “Ang layon ng NDRRMC at ng buhong pamahalaan ng Pilipinas, sa ilalim ng
pamumuno ni President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, ay ang pagpapalakas ng kahandaan ng mamamayan
laban sa hagupit ng mga kalamidad,” Jalad added. And in this case we all should be prepared for a
mega earthquake or the “Big One”.
