Course Description :
Students will be introduced to concept and
principles of environmental science with a strong
emphasis on how it would affect everyday living.
Current global and local environmental issues will
be thoroughly explained linking it to human
activities. As a unifying principle, the concept of
sustainable development will be introduced at the
concluding chapter of the course.

CLO 1: Appreciate the beauty of nature and put into practice the value of biodiversity for a healthy community
CLO 2: Apply up to date technology in better understanding and conservation of the organism.
CLO 3: Recognize and appreciate the ecological and economic importance of plants and animals
CLO 4: Appreciate the value of research in understanding how nature works for the better harmony of man
and nature
CLO 5: Create an advocacy campaign on how communities can help preserve and protect the beauty of nature
CLO 6: Practice on daily basis their learning and apply the concept of science education to everyday life.

Week 2: April 12-16, 2021 Lesson 2 : Matter, Energy and Environment


ILO 1: Develop and use models to describe the atomic nature of matter; demonstrate how they provide a simple way
to account for the conservation of mass, changes of state, physical change, chemical change, mixtures, and their
separation;
ILO2: Describe and model the structure of the atom in terms of the nucleus, protons, neutrons and electrons;
comparing mass and charge of protons neutrons and electrons
ILO3: Classify substances as elements, compounds, mixtures, metals, non-metals, solids, liquids, gases and solutions
ILO4: Describe the four major types of biological molecules

ILO 1: Identify and list abiotic and biotic factors in an ecosystem
ILO 2: Describe the different species interactions and define the roles of producer, consumer, and decomposer
ILO 3: describe the cycling of matter, including that of Nitrogen, carbon and water, associating it with biological
and atmospheric phenomena
ILO 4: Identify the different types of Ecosystem and understand its function and its role to mankind
ILO 5: Identify and appreciate the different Biomes on Earth and Understand how it works and its importance

Week 4: April 26-30, 2021 (Midterm week April 28,29 & 30, 2021) Lesson 5: Population
ILO 1: Learn the basic characteristics of population
ILO 2: Explain the significance of biotic potential to the rate of population growth.
ILO 3: Distinguish between density-dependent and density-independent limiting factors
ILO 4: Explain how human population growth is influenced by economic, social, theological, philosophical, and
political thinking

Week 5: May 3-7, 2021 Lesson 6: Energy and Philippine Natural Resources
ILO 1: Identify the different Natural Resources found here in the Philippines
ILO 2: Research different energy sources; formulate and communicate an informed view of ways that current and
future energy needs on Earth can be met
ILO 3: Differentiate between nonrenewable and renewable sources of energy.
ILO 4: Describe the major environmental issues related to the extraction and use of oil and natural gas and other
development related to renewable sources of energy.

Week 6: May 10-14, 2021 Lesson 7: Philippine Biodiversity


ILO 1: Identify the major causes of biodiversity loss, specifically in the Philippines.
ILO 2: Gain awareness of the need to conserve biodiversity

Week 7: May 17-21, 2021 Lesson 8: Climate Change and Air Pollution
ILO 1: illustrate how earth processes and human factors influence the Earth's climate, evaluate effects of climate
change and initiatives that attempt to address those effects
ILO 2: Understand the concept of Greenhouse effect and Global Warming
ILO 3: Understand the basic composition and structure of the atmosphere
ILO 4: Identify the different gases that composes and destroys our ozone layer
ILO 5: Classify and identify the major air pollutants and where they come from

ILO 1: Explain why solid waste is a problem throughout the world
ILO 2: Describe the various methods of waste disposal and problems associated with each method
ILO 3: Gain understanding on Lasagna technique of composting as a method of waste reduction
ILO 4: Identify what constitutes water pollution and what are the major categories of pollutants
ILO 5: Identify the laws that protect and conserve our natural resources
ILO 6: Understand the laws that concerns about the welfare of our Biodiversity

Week 9: May 28, 29, 31, 2021 FINAL EXAMINATION

Reminders:
It is expected that students have the maturity and discipline to do self-directed learning.
The learning activities are already uploaded in Moodle and students can access the 1st two week activities and may
comply the required tasks/activities in advance.
Submission of output/s is every end of the week preferably Friday and must be submitted through Moodle.
Weekly quiz is scheduled every Friday of the week.
The students must have the capability to do video conferencing using MSTeam
Written summative exams like midterm and final shall be done online through Moodle
