RESEARCH/CAPSTONE PROJECT FINAL REPORT

ABSTRACT
Dr. Maria D. Pastrana National High School, like other schools in
Quezon, Province, is currently facing significant problems with regard to
juvenile antisocial behavior and crime. The current study explores some of the
factors associated with school vandalism in public high schools. Multilevel
modeling with survey data from 22,345 students from 10249 schools, acquired
over two years, was used to determine how much variation in the rates of
school vandalism exists between and within schools, and to detect individual
and contextual characteristics that explain significant proportions of the
variance. Results demonstrated significant differences across schools in the
rates of student vandalism, most of which were associated with gang
involvement, drug use, bullying, no attachment to school rules, and unequal
treatment of students by teachers. These results are discussed in relation to the
literature on school vandalism, and implications for the prevention of school
vandalism are discussed

Purpose:
To know the effect of vandalism on the selected students of Dr. Maria
D. Pastrana National High School.

Design/ Methodology/ Approach:

The researcher will use descriptive method and quantitative approach
of research in which response gathered through a questionnaire. The
descriptive method includes the description, analysis and interpretation of data.
The researchers believe that the research method will obtain all the necessary
information about the effects of vandalism of the students.

Findings: Vandalism or destruction of public property is one of the most

complex human behaviors. It is hard to decide what the vandalism is and what
vandalism is not. Response to the destruction of public property may vary
based on different social circumstances. According to scholars of sociology and
psychology, a person becoming a vandal may be subject to different social and
psychological factors, the most important of which include family, education
institution and
social environment in which one lives, which if unhealthy, will have the greatest
impact on children and adolescents’ behavior..

Research Limitations/ Implication:

The study seek to identify the effects of vandalism in the selected
students in Dr. Maria D. Pastrana National High School.

The researchers will select respondents from JHS in DMDPNHS 2020-

2021. It will be conducted through questionnaire which will serve as the basis
for the success of this research.

Brief Introduction Vandalism is the destruction or defacement of

property. This includes tagging, graffiti, or damaging
furniture or school facilities. Vandalism costs schools
money that could otherwise be used for educational
purposes or school activities. The existence of
vandalized property at schools degrades campus
environment. The presence of vandalism at school
costs money and makes school facilities less attractive
and even unusable. You deserve an environment that is
free from graffiti and property damage.

relationship between age, involvement in delinquent

delinquency. The results also showed that boys who
belong to families of lower classes, have been prone
more treacherous criminal acts (Shiri, 1996). Ramezani,

Recommendations Security officers, recording devices, and physical
barriers may help protect the school, but in order for

these to be successful, there must also be punishments
for those who damage the school. Vandalism is a serious
crime, and prosecution of criminals may help deter
additional incidents.
