 Create an infomercial about the negative effects of early marriage and advice one can give
for those who have already married early in life.

What is so exciting about youth? Yes, you have crushes, boyfriends or girlfriends and
childhood sweethearts. What else? Of course, you are single, thus, you get to do things quite easily
because you don’t have serious responsibilities to face yet. So what do you do? For sure, you try to
have so much fun. But why do you think some teenagers marry early?

Remember that life after marriage is hard. One should see to it that he/she is ready and
prepared enough for the bigger responsibilities that a married life demands.

TASK 1. If you were to get married someday, what would be the factors that you would want to
consider before marrying? Share your responses by accomplishing the graphic organizer below.

TASK 2. Which part of the story can you relate with and why? Let us see how well you understood it by
answering the following questions.

1. Describe each of the characters in the story.


2. Describe the setting including the social condition (daily life of the characters) in the story.
3. What made Dodong feel that he was no longer a boy but a man?
4. What character is revealed by Dodong when he was tickled by the worm, jerked his foot,
flinging the worm into the air yet he never bothered to look at where it fell?
5. Why was Dodong’s father and eventually Dodong himself hesitant to let their sons marry?
But why couldn’t he say no?
6. Explain Dodong’s reaction when Teang gave birth.
7. Are Dodong and Teang happy in their married life? Prove your answer.
8. Compare and contrast the scene between Blas and his father, and Dodong and his father.
9. Explain the following sentences from the story: “Youth must triumph now. Love must
triumph… now. Afterwards… it will be life.”
10. What message does the author wish to convey to the youth of today

What did you feel and realize after reading the story? What reflections about young love have
you formed out? Should marriage be a hindrance to success? Shall you then marry at an early age?

TASK 3. Create one-minute infomercial manifesting the negative effects of teen marriage and the
advice you can give for those who have already married early in life. Common, you can do it! Have
fun!
