    LESSON 1. INTRODUCTION TO TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING


    Unit 1. Basic Concepts
    Activities/Assessment:
    Instruction. Explain the definition of the following:
    1. Technology
    - the term technology means application of science to practical human ends-
    particularly, to increase productivity and the availability of leisure and to improve the
    quality of life.

    2. Information and Communication Technology


    - ICT is technology that supports activities involving information. Such activities
    include gathering, processing, storing and presenting data. Increasingly these activities
    also involve collaboration and communication. Hence IT has become ICT: information
    and communication technology.

    3. Educational technology
    - Educational technology is the effective use of techno-logical tools in learning.
    Educational technology is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and
    improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological
    processes and resources.

    4. Instructional system
    - Instructional systems or design is the systematic planning of instruction
    including needs assessment, and evaluation of materials and practices.

    5. Instructional technology
    - Instructional technology, refers to the technology used for providing instruction.
    It is also a branch of education concerned with the scientific study of instructional design
    and development.

    Unit 2. Roles of ICT in Teaching and Learning


    Activities/Assessment:
    Instruction. Answer the question listed below:
    1. What are the roles of ICT in teaching and learning? Explain each briefly.

     Educational functions
    - ICT is making dynamic changes in society, and those changes are way
    felt more in education especially this pandemic. ICT helps learners and teachers
    to discover, adapt and learn in wider aspects and to engage in other
    opportunities easily where ICT is present.

     Discovery function
    - ICT as a discovery function shows that with the help of ICT, learners or
    researchers can answer their thoughts easily by searching and learning them
    online. Discovering learning through ICT is an excellent strategy for learners to
    learn because various learning resources are available online and some of them
    are free to use for anyone.

     Instrumental function
    - ICT as an instrumental function talks about how ICT evolves from being
    a distraction into being essential to a learner’s education. ICT is not just software
    and hardware that intends to entertain but it also tends to make work easier,
    especially in education, ICT can be conventional and non-conventional. It has
    features that learners and teachers can use to work on, like PPT, Word
    documents, Google classroom, Google meet, et al. these examples are really
    essential these days where ICT become an in-demand mean of learning.

     Communication Function
    - ICT as a communication function is the most used and essential function.
    Communication is everywhere and with the help of ICT, it became easier and
    accessible whenever or wherever you are. And with the integration of new
    networks and technologies, it is easier to communicate, inform, persuade, or
    simply interact with each other over a wide geographic distance because it's
    accessible to anyone.
