questions:
a. What is discussed on the video?
b. In what situations are the sperm cells unable to reach the
egg cell?
c. How will you describe the journey of the sperm cell and
egg cell until fertilization successfully happens?
d. Why is it stated in the video that “fertilization is a story of
all of us”?

Note to the Teacher:

The teacher may refer the video from the CSE video resources
entitled “Video Lesson 5 Fertilization”.

Fertilization is the union of sperm and egg cell. A human

develops from an egg that has been fertilized by the sperm.

Important Events in the Process of Fertilization:

1. After being discharged from the ovary, the egg cell begins to
travel through the fallopian tube to the uterus.
2. If a sperm cell is present in the fallopian tube, it will try to
penetrate the egg cell.
3. If the sperm succeeds, it sheds its tail. Fertilization has taken
place. The egg cell can no longer be penetrated by any other
sperm cell.
4. The fertilized egg called zygote continues to move towards the
uterus.
5. It is here where the zygote implants itself and continues its
development into a full term fetus.

3
E. Application
Ask: As a Grade 7 student, do you think you are at the right age
to engage and experience the process of fertilization? Why?

Say: Let’s do the next activity.

Task 3: It’s Showtime!

Directions:
1. Divide the class into five groups.
2. Assign a leader/representative from the group. He/she
will randomly choose a card from the teacher.
3. Each group will prepare for a task written on the card.
The task should explain the process of fertilization.
4. The groups will be given 5 minutes to prepare and 2
minutes to present.
Note to the Teacher:
The cards will be prepared by the teacher preferably, printed
on a firm card with the following words for each card:
simulation, poem, short story, vlog (video log) and interview.
The teacher should look after the preparations of each group to
guide them in organizing it.
