1. INTRODUCTION:
MINIMAC MS-TOFS SERIES MACHINE ARE HIGH-END TECHNOLOGY MACHINES POPULARLY
USED FOR DEHYDRATION (MOISTURE REMOVAL) OF TRANSFORMER OIL
LOW VACUUM DEHYDRATION MACHINE DESIGNED HIGH/LOW VACUUM SYSTEM. THE MAIN
CRITERIA OF MACHINE ARE TO REMOVE SEDIMENTS/SLUDGE, MOISTURE CONTENT, DISSOLVED
GAS, ACIDITY IN THE OIL. THE SYSTEM CONSISTS OF HEATER CHAMBER, DEGASSING
CHAMBER/DEHYDRATION CHAMBER AND INLET, OUTLET PUMP SETS.
2) EFFECTS OF MOISTURE:
THE PRESENCE OF BOTH FREE AND DISSOLVED WATER IN TRANSFORMER OILS IS
DETRIMENTAL TO THE OVERALL PERFORMANCE OF THE INSULATING SYSTEM. WATER IN THE
TRANSFORMER INSULATION SYSTEM CAUSES:

ANY INCREASE IN WATER CONTENT ABOVE THIS POINT RESULTS IN FREE WATER DROPLETS
SUSPENDED IN THE FLUID. ANY DROP IN FLUID TEMPERATURE RESULTS IN CONVERSION OF
DISSOLVED MOISTURE TO FREE WATER.

3. GETTING STARTED
CONNECTING HOSES
1. THE MACHINE IS SUPPLIED WITH ONE OUTLET HOSE AND ONE SUCTION HOSE OF
STANDARD QUALITY AND DIAMETER.
2. IT IS ADVISABLE TO USE THE SAME CONNECTIONS FOR STANDARD PERFORMANCE.
AFTER CONNECTING THE HOSES
3. TO THE RESPECTIVE CONNECTORS FOR SUCTION AND OUTLET
4. PUT THE OTHER END IN THE DRUM/ RESERVOIR CONTAINING THE OIL TO BE
CLEANED.

4. DEHYDRATION FUNCTION
TO START THIS,
1. THERE ARE 2 KEY COMPONENTS WHICH NEED TO BE SWITCHED ON, 1) PRE-HEATER, 2)
VACUUM PUMP.
2. PUT MAIN SWITCH ON, THEN ON THE PRE- HEATER AND ON VACUUM PUMP
3. CHECK VACUUM GAUGE CONTUNIOUSLY
4. AS THE RESPECTIVE BUTTONS OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED COMPONENTS ARE TURNED
ON,
5. THEIR INDICATORS WILL GLOW GREEN.
6. THE PRE-HEATER TEMPERATURE IS CONTROLLED BY A MANUAL THERMOSTAT SWITCH.

1. THE INLET AND OUTLET HOSES ARE CONNECTED PROPERLY TO THE TRANSFORMER
2. ELECTRIC SUPPLY IS CONNECTED PROPERLY AND CHECK THE DIRECTION OF ROTATION OF
PUMPS (WITH PRESSURE INDICATOR), CORRECT IF NECESSARY.
3. BEFORE SUCKING THE OIL FROM OIL TRANSFORMER, ENSURE THAT THE MACHINE IS FILLED
WITH THE OIL SO THAT OIL LEVEL IN THE OIL TRANSFORMER WILL NOT FALL DOWN DURING
FILTRATION CYCLE.
4. CHECK THE OIL LEVEL IN THE VACUUM PUMP AND FILL THE OIL IF NECESSARY. PLEASE CHECK
THE COLOUR OF THE OIL, IF IT BECOMES MILKY REPLACE IT WITH PROPER GRADE OF OIL
1. SEE THAT ALL THE DRAIN VALVES, AIRING VALVES, SAMPLE VALVES ARE CLOSED.
2. ALL OIL LINE VALVES ARE OPEN AND FLOW CONTROL VALVE IS PARTIALLY OPEN IF
APPLICABLE.
3. HOSES ARE CONNECTED PROPERLY.
4. SWITCH THE ON BUTTON.
5. CHECK THE EMERGENCY IN RELEASED CONDITION.
6. SET THE DESIRED TEMPERATURE OF OIL HEATER WITH THE HELP OF KNOB ATTACHED TO
THERMOSTAT.
7. SWITCH ON THE INLET PUMP BUTTON. CHECK THE INLET PUMP IN RUNNING GOOD
CONDITION.
8. SWITCH ON THE VACUUM PUMP AND HEATER
9. SWITCH ON BOOSTER PUMP
10. ONCE THE OIL IS FILLED IN DEGASSING CHAMBER THEN START THE DISCHARGE PUMP
11. CHECH FLOW ON FLOW METER
12. AT LEAST ONE OPERATOR SHOULD BE WITH PLANT

2) WAIT FOR 30 MINUTES, THEN OPEN AIRING/VACUUM RELEASE VALVE AND SWITCH
OFF VACUUM PUMP.
3) CLOSE THE OIL INLET AND OUTLET VALVES.
4) DISCONNECT THE INLET AND OUTLET HOSES AND ELECTRICAL SUPPLY CAREFULLY.
5) PLEASE ENSURE THAT OIL FROM INLET AND OUTLET HOSES IS TAKEN OUT TO AVOID
SPILLAGE OF OIL IN THE MACHINE DURING TRANSPORT.
6) PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE SUPPLY CABLE AND EARTHING CABLES ARE DISCONNECTED
PROPERLY AND SUPPLY BOX IS CLOSED PROPERLY.

B. BALL VALVE :-
A BALL VALVE IS A FORM OF QUARTER-TURN VALVE WHICH USES A HOLLOW, PERFORATED AND
PIVOTING BALL TO CONTROL FLOW THROUGH IT. IT IS OPEN WHEN THE BALL'S HOLE IS IN LINE
WITH THE FLOW AND CLOSED WHEN IT IS PIVOTED 90-DEGREES BY THE VALVE HANDLE. IT IS
USED FOR MAINTENANCE OF MACHINE.
C. SUCTION STRAINER:-
THE OIL ENTERS INTO THE SYSTEM IS FIRSTLY PASSING THROUGH THE SUCTION STRAINER OF 149
MICRON. THE MAJOR PARTICLES ARE TRAPPED INTO THIS STRAINER UP TO 149 MICRON SUCH A
THAT PUMPS SAFTY ALSO OBTAINED BY STRAINER
E. ELECTRIC MOTOR:-
THE MOTOR OR AN ELECTRICAL MOTOR IS A DEVICE THAT HAS BROUGHT
ABOUT ONE OF THE BIGGEST ADVANCEMENTS IN THE FIELDS OF
ENGINEERIN G AND TECHNOLOGY EVER SINCE THE INVENTION OF
ELECTRICITY. A MOTOR IS NOTHING BUT AN ELECTRO-MECHANICAL
DEVICE THAT CONVERTS ELECTRICAL ENERGY TO MECHANICAL ENERGY.

F. PRE-HEATER
AN ELECTRIC HEATER IS AN ELECTRICAL DEVICE THAT CONVERTS ELECTRIC CURRENT TO HEAT.
THIS IS INDIRECT TYPE HEATER. THE HEATING ELEMENT INSIDE EVERY ELECTRIC HEATER IS AN
ELECTRICAL RESISTOR, AND WORKS ON THE PRINCIPLE OF JOULE HEATING: AN ELECTRIC
CURRENT PASSING THROUGH A RESISTOR WILL CONVERT THAT ELECTRICAL ENERGY INTO HEAT
ENERGY.IT IS USED FOR HEATING (OIL) PURPOSE.
G. DRAIN VALVE:
IT IS USED FOR DRAIN THE OIL FROM HEATER, FILTER AND OTHER
HOUSING AND WATER COLLECTOR CHAMBER AND DEHYDRATION
CHAMBER.
H. DEHYDRATION CHAMBER:
THE DEHYDRATION CHAMBER IS MADE UP OF M.S/S.S. SHEET
AND HAS WELDED CONSTRUCTION. THIN LAYER PLATE
ARRANGEMENT PROVIDED IN DEHYDRATION CHAMBER. THE
DEGASSING/DEHYDRATION CHAMBER OF CYLINDRICAL SHAPE IS
FUNCTIONING AS DEGASSER & DEHUMIDIFIER AND CAPABLE OF
REMOVING DISSOLVED GASES & MOISTURE FROM THE OIL
CAPACITY OF THESE CHAMBER VARIES FROM 50 LITERS TO 120
LITERS AS PER APPLICATION .
THIS CHAMBER IS LARGE WORKING VOLUME PREVENTS
EXCESS RISE OF OIL/FOAM LEVEL AND AVOID CONTAMINATION
OF VACUUM PUMP OIL WITH TRANSFORMER OIL
IN THIS DEHYDRATION CHAMBER RISE & FALL IN OIL LEVEL IS
ELECTRICALLY INTERLOCKED WITH INLET PUMP BY FLOAT LEVEL
SWITCH.

I. LEVEL SENSORS
THERE ARE TWO LEVEL SENSORS ARE PROVIDED IN DEGASSING/DEHYDRATION
CHAMBER.
1ST IS LOW LEVEL & 2ND IS HIGH LEVEL/FOAM SWITCH
INLET PUMP IS OPERATED ON THE LOW LEVEL SENSOR. IF OIL REACHED DOWN TO LOW
LEVEL SENSOR THEN INLET PUMP WILL TRIP SO OIL FLOW STOPED SUDDENLY AND
REMAINING OIL PRESENT IN THE DEGASSING CHAMBER IS PUMPED OUT BY OULTET
PUMP
FURTHERMORE, WHEN OIL IS REACHED ABOVE TO LOW LEVEL SWITCH INLET PUMP WILL
ON AND DEGASSING PROCESS CONTINUES
IF OIL IN DEGASSING CHAMBER IS BELOW LOW LEVEL SWITCH INLET PUMP WILL TRIP
IF NOT WORKING DUE TO SOME FAULT IN THAT, THEN THE OIL REACHED TO HIGH LEVEL
SENSOR, THAT TIME THE HIGH LEVEL SENSOR/FOAM SWITCH SENSE THE HIGH LEVEL &

N. OUTLET PORT :-
1”R1 RUBBER HOSE IS CONNECTED TO OUTLET PORT .

Q. VACUUM GAUGE:-
PRESSURE GAUGE IS A MEASURING INSTRUMENT. IT IS USED TO
MEASURE THE VACUUM.

7. GENERAL MAINTENANCE
1) CHECK OIL LEVEL IN THE VACUUM PUMP REGULARLY. TOP UP THE LEVEL IF NECESSARY
WITH PROPER GRADE.
2) CHECK ALIGNMENT OF PUMP & MOTOR PERIODICALLY. IT IS NECESSARY WHEN THE
SOUND LEVEL OF PUMP INCREASES.
3) CHECK THE HEATER CONNECTIONS REGULARLY. CLEAN AND TIGHT THE CONNECTIONS
PROPERLY IF REQUIRED.
4) KEEP THE MACHINE AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE.
5) CHECK THE FITTING OF NUT & BOLTS REGULARLY, ESPECIALLY THE MACHINE IS WORKING
OUTSIDE AND TRAVELLING A LOT.
6) DO NOT UNNECESSARILY OPEN AND TIGHTEN THE VALVE MORE THAN REQUIRED.
7) DO NOT NEGLECT EARTHING WHEN WORKING WITH THE MACHINE.

8. TROUBLESHOOTING
1. PRESSURE GAUGE INDICATES VERY LOW PRESSURE
1) CHECK THE PUMP DIRECTION.
2) ENSURE THAT THERE IS OIL AT THE SUCTION SIDE.
3) CLEAN SUCTION STRAINER, IF DIRTY.
4) CHECK THE PUMP RELIEF VALVE, IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS, MAY BE THE PUMP IS WORN
AND NEEDS TO BE OVERHAULED.
2. RESTRICTED OIL FLOW FROM OUTLET FOR PURIFIED OIL
1) SUCTION STRAINER AT THE INLET, MIGHT BE CLOGGED, CLEAN IT.

3. INLET PUMP IS NOT HIGH OIL LEVEL CHECK THE OIL LEVEL IN
STARTING OR TRIPPING TRIPPING DEGASSING CHAMBER LOWERS IT
BY OUTLET PUMP.
4. INLET PUMPS IS NOT INLET HOSE CONDITION TIGHT THE INLET HOSE ON NOZZLE
SUCKING THE OIL WITH HOSE DIP.
