This assignment is the result of commitment and hard effort aimed at benefiting society. It
was an honor to be able to work with Smile Foundation, an organization dedicated to
bringing about change in society by offering education to those who cannot afford it and
spreading smiles to make the world a better place to live. I am obliged to many people and
organization for their constant support and advice which enabled me to successfully
complete my internship.

I would also like to thank the Institute of Management and its director, Dr. M Mallikarjun,
for giving me with such a wonderful opportunity to work for society and serve others. I am
grateful to our Program Chairperson, Dr. Dhyani Mehta, and my faculty mentor, Dr.
Azharuddin Shaikh, for his consistent encouragement and supervision during the internship,
thereby guiding me through the right path.

I would want to convey my deepest gratitude to Smile Foundation for giving me the
opportunity to work with their excellent organization. Mr. Rhusikesh Borse deserves special
recognition for his persistent support and inspiration during my time at Smile Organization.
He always pushed us to come up with fresh ideas for solutions and to aid the less fortunate.

Executive Summary

4|Page
The internship's major goal was to bring out a change in society by assisting
individuals who are underprivileged in different aspects of life, one of which was
education. We were a group of three interns tasked with visiting the NGO's seven
centers and impart in them the value of education, improve their knowledge in many
topics, and explain the significance of being financially self-sufficient in life, which has
its own set of advantages. We attempted to perform our work by using various methods
such as conducting sessions, showing them motivational videos, interacting with them,
and exploring employment opportunities for them in the finest organizations.

Part A: Profile of the Organization

 About the organization
Smile Foundation is an NGO in India that directly benefits over 15,00,000 children and
their families each year via more than 400 live welfare programs in education,
healthcare, livelihood, and women empowerment in over 2000 rural villages and slums
throughout 25 Indian states.

Education is both the means and the end to a better life: the means because it enables a
person to earn a living, and the end because it raises one's awareness of a variety of
issues – from healthcare to appropriate social behavior to understanding one's rights –
and thus helps him or her evolve as a better citizen.

Education is the most effective catalyst for societal change. However, child education
cannot be done in isolation. Only if the family, particularly the mother, has access to
healthcare and is empowered can a child attend school. Furthermore, when an older
sister acquires appropriate skills and begins to work, the empowerment path extends
beyond the current generation.

 Organization History
Smile Foundation was formed in 2002 by a group of young corporate leaders who were
inspired by Senge's philosophy and wanted to work with grassroots programs to make a
positive difference in the lives of underprivileged children, their families, and
communities.

Part B: Details of the Project Work
 Experimental Learning Project

Introduction
A meeting with the assistant manager of the Mumbai branch was conducted on the first
day of our internship, and he gave us a brief overview of our work, including which
centers we needed to visit, and we were also given the previous year's annual report of
the NGO to get a better understanding of the organization.

We had seven centers to cover in one month, and each of us was responsible for
visiting the centers separately, with no two interns visiting the same center. So, below
is my schedule of the centers I visited and for how many days I was there.

The Various Tasks Performed during the Internship –

1. Monitoring the session -
Monitoring used to be a regular duty in every week and in every new center since it
could offer us a lot of information about how many students are in a specific center,
what curriculum is being taught, and so on. During the session monitoring, the
following points were to be observed.

 Keeping track of attendance, whether or not all of the students arrived at the
same time.

 Receiving student information, such as the number of male and female students
are present in the class.

 Recording class information such as which trainers or teachers led the sessions
and how many of them taught in a single class.

 Observing the teaching techniques utilized with the students (lecture methods,
visual methods etc).

 The terminology that is used in class to help students comprehend the topics
better.

 Observing the interaction between the teacher and the students in the classroom
during the Question/Answer session.

2. Conducting Training Sessions -

The next task was to organize training sessions in order to pass on our knowledge to
others, since this would benefit them and provide them with the chance to learn new
things about various areas. There was no defined mode of conducting it so, in my
training session I use to explain topics either through power point presentations or by
displaying some videos that would catch the students' attention and they would enjoy
learning through this new method rather than the lecture methods.

3. Research on Placements –
This was one of the most essential and needed tasks since there was a greater emphasis

9|Page
on placements of the students studying as, because the major goal of the NGO is to
improve the lives of the underprivileged people in our society. And the objective was to
acquire good placements in the firm. This activity was also one of the most educational
for me since it allowed me to learn more about other firms, their job profiles, new
positions accessible in the nation, and many other things, which helped me to extend
my knowledge in the field of employment and careers.

4. Creating and Editing Success Stories –

This task included creation and editing the stories of the students who used to
successfully complete their NGO course and would acquire decent jobs in the future
that would improve their lives. The work involved writing their personal information,
family background, experience in the NGO's STeP Programme, and the first job they
used to acquire after finishing the course in a format specified by the organizers.

5. Mobilization –
As, the internship was conducted online, this job could only be completed online; it
was not feasible to complete it offline. The job entailed educating young people in
diverse areas about the program (STeP) and then encouraging them to enroll in courses
that will help them in the future. For this task, I was given a well-written message that I
was required to email to all of my contacts. The message included all of the program's
specifics, such as the duration of the class, available courses, and the program's age
limit, among other things. After sending the message, I informed them of the
advantages of participating in this program. As previously said, the primary objective is
to train impoverished kids and improve their living situations.

6. Annual report

Week 1 [June 21st – June 26th]

10 | P a g e
The first week of my internship I worked in the Matoshree (Ugro) center which was
located in Mumbai. For the first two days I monitored the sessions which took place in
morning, afternoon and in the evening. Through monitoring I acquired lot of details
about the center such as, which courses were being taught to students, information
about students like their age, education qualifications etc. Collecting all these details
was necessary for my work in upcoming days. On the third day of the work in the
center I conducted a training session on "How to be confident in interviews" and
"Interview tips and tactics." As, the center coordinator had suggested me to give a
session on these subjects in order to motivate and make students feel more confident
when in future they will be preparing for their interviews. The next day I was assigned
the task to find jobs for the students in the finest organizations which will improve their
future and will offer them various benefits in life. The last day of the week I worked on
the annual report of the NGO where I had to edit and change the language of the
document.
