DAILY LESSON PLAN ON GRADE 7 SCIENCE

Duration: 45 minutes

The Learners demonstrate an understanding of:

CONTENT STANDARDS
organisms interacting with each other and with their environment to survive

The learners shall be able to: conduct a collaborative action to preserve the
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
ecosystem in the locality

The Learners should be able to

LEARNING COMPETENCIES
perform the following activities with at least 75% proficiency:

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

A. Describe how producers, first order consumer, second order consumer,

and third order consumer gets its food.
I. OBJECTIVES
B. Construct a food chain showing how energy flow from the sun to the
different organisms.
C. Develop an awareness about the similarity of how the food chain work
to how the Covid-19 virus spread.

II. SUBJECT MATTER Energy Transfer in the Ecosystems

A. LEARNING RESOURCES

1. Teacher’s Guide Pages

2. Learner’s Materials Pages P. 124-129

Skills Communication, critical thinking, numeracy, literacy and listening skills

B. PROCEDURES

I. ENGAGE

Reviewing previous lessons or

presenting new lessons
 What was our topic last meeting?
 What are the different relationships that exist between
organisms in an ecosystem?

II. ELICIT

Introducing the Lesson

Post an illustration of an ecosystem to the class using a Power point
presentation.

A. Let the students describe the illustration, then ask the following
question:

1. What are the different types of plants that you can see in the
illustration?

2.  How do you think the plants gets its energy?

3. Count how many organisms that feed on plants are present in this
illustration?

4. What types of animals you can see in the illustration? Give one
example.

5. Identify the organisms that feed on other organisms and use them as
source of energy.

B. Identify the organisms that are mentioned as producers, first

order consumer, second order consumer, and third order
consumer

III. EXPLORE

Presenting examples/
instances of the new lesson Using the same illustration, call students volunteers to trace the flow of
energy from the sun to the different organisms.

            Energy from the sun

IV. EXPLAIN Class discussion:

Discussing new concepts and 1. What can you observe in this series?
practicing skills #1 2. How does energy flow from the sun to the different organisms?
3. What does it tells us?
4. What do we call this series of energy flow?

V. ELABORATE
Food chain
Developing mastery (Leads to
formative assessment)
A sequence of energy transfer among organisms to obtain energy and
nutrients.

A series of eaten-eater relationship or a series of producer-and-

consumer relationship based on food.

 A food chain starts with the energy source, the sun.

 The next link in the chain is the group of organisms that
make their own food - the photosynthetic organisms
(producers)
 Next in the sequence are organisms the eat the producers;
they are the first order consumers
 The next link in the chain is the group of animals that eat the first

order consumer; they are the second order consumer. These

organisms in turn, are eaten by larger animals – the predators;
they are also called third order consumers.

Finding practical applications Students will be grouped into five (4) and will present a short role play
of concepts and skills in daily showing the transfer of energy from the surrounding and between
living organisms based on their daily lives.

The output will be presented in the class.

Making generalizations about

the lesson 1. Do you think there’s a similarity about how the food chain work to how
the Covid-19 virus spread?
2. What preventive measure can you do to stop the spread of the virus?

VI. EVALUATE A. Construct a food chain showing how energy flow from the sun to the
different organisms. List down the organisms found in your food chain. By
putting a check mark (/), classify them according to the following
categories:

VII. EXTEND
A.     List down 3 examples for each of the following:

 Producers
 1 order consumer
st

 2 order consumer
nd

 3 order consumer
rd

B. Draw a food chain.

Label the organisms as;

 producers,
 1st order consumer,
 2nd order consumer,
 3rd order consumer
