COURSE SYLLABUS

SUBJECT DESCRIPTION:
Purposive Communication is about writing, speaking, and presenting to different audience and for various purposes (CMO 20 s 2013).
Purposive Communication is a three unit course that develops students’ communicative competence and their cultural and intercultural awareness
through multimodal tasks that provide them opportunities for communicating effectively and appropriately to a multicultural audience in a local or
global context. It equips students with tools for critical evaluation of a variety of texts and focuses on the power of language and the impact of images
to emphasize the importance of conveying messages responsibly. The knowledge skills and insights that students gain from this course may be used
in their other academic endeavours, their chosen disciplines and their future careers as they compose and produce relevant oral, written audio-visual
and/or web-based output for various purposes.

SCOPE:
1. Explain the principles and process of communication and the ethical considerations in communication.
2. Elucidate how communication skills help resolve problems, better understand new concepts, and aid their profession.
3. Analyze media messages and/or images using Key Concepts of Media Literacy framework.
4. Compare and contrast the different modes of delivering a speech and written communication.
5. Create a blog promoting one’s unique culture and tradition.
6. Deliver effectively a message to an audience.
LEARNING PLAN
Course Requirements Students are required to submit their written outputs regularly and participate actively in online lectures, modular students will be given
considerations, and teacher will have to conduct follow up instructions via text message or home visitation (if necessary) in order to earn
the credits and to pass the subject. Failure to submit their subject requirements and outputs will be marked FAILED which will lead them to
repeat the course subject.
