Welcome to the Technology and Livelihood Education 9 Self Learning Module (SLeM)
on Computer Systems Servicing

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to process the
contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.

This module has the following parts and corresponding icons:

This will give you an idea of the skills or
competencies you are expected to learn in
the module.

This part is composed of a 15-item activity in

order to check what you already know about
the lesson to take. If you get all the answers
correct (100%) you may decide to skip this
module.

This is a brief drill or review to help you link

the current lesson with the previous one.

This section provides a brief discussion of

the lesson. This aims to help you discover
and understand new concepts and skills.

This comprises activities for independent

practice to solidify your understanding and
skills of the topic. You may check the answers
to the exercises using the Answer Key at the
end of the module.

This includes questions or fill on the blank

sentence/paragraph to process what you
learned from the lesson.

This section provides an activity which will help

you transfer your new knowledge or skill into
real life situations or concerns.

This is another 15-item task which aims to

evaluate your level of mastery in achieving
the learning competency.

In this portion, another activity will be given

to you to enrich your knowledge or skill of

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you advance your
knowledge and skills in software installation. The scope of this module permits it to be used in
many different learning situations. The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level
of students. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course. But the
order in which you read them can be changed to correspond with the textbook you are now
using.

The module is divided into three lessons, namely:

• Lesson 1 – Preparing Installers
• Lesson 2 – End User Agreement and Software Utilization Guide
• Lesson 3 – Software Installers

After going through this module, you are expected to:

1. Create portable bootable devices in accordance with software manufacturer instruction; 2.
Prepare customized installers in accordance with software utilization guide and end user
agreement; and
3. Carry out installation of portable applications in accordance with software user guide and
software license

It is important to be familiar with the minimum hardware requirements of a particular

software before proceeding with the installation. Making sure that the computer system meets
these requirements guarantees an efficient hardware and software compatibility and
performance.
After accomplishing the previous lesson, I believe that you can answer the following activity.

Directions. Put a ( ) if the statement is correct and ( X) if not.

The list below shows the minimum requirements for a Windows 10 OS Installation:

____1. 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or System on a Chip (SoC) ____2. 1 gigabyte
(GB) for 32-bit and/or 2 gigabyte (GB) for 64-bit RAM capacity ____3. 1 gigabyte (GB) for
32-bit and/or 32 gigabyte (GB) for 64-bit hard disk space or more ____4. DirectX 9 or later
with WDDM 1.0 driver

Lesson 2: End User Agreement and Software Utilization Guide
Written by: Angelo S. Bautista
End User Agreement and Software Utilization Guide
It is important to remember that all software including installers are under an End
User Agreement and are provided with Software Utilization Guide.
An End User Agreement is a legal binding contract between the software
developer and/or vendor and the user of the software. It also includes the retailer and/or
the proprietary supplier.
A Software Utilization Guide is a document and/or manual included in a
software as a set or package. It includes a written technical guide on usage and
assistance on a particular system that may contain associated images, diagrams,
screenshots.

Activity 2
Read and analyze the screenshot of Microsoft Software License Terms no. 2
then answer the

questions that follow.

Following the License Terms:
● Are you allowed to install this software on more than one computer? Why?
● How many users are allowed to use the software at the same time? Or How many users
at a time are allowed to use the software?
● Is hardware considered a device?

Lesson 3: Software Installers

Written by: Angelo S. Bautista

Software Installers
Software are sets essential programs that enable a computer system to perform a specific task.
Computer software programs have to be installed into the computer storage for it to actually run.

Types of
Software

Systems Software

Application Software

Systems Software are programs that specifically function to manage the computer system.
These include the operating system, system utilities, drivers etc.
Application Software are programs that perform different specific tasks. These include
productivity software, graphics and video editing software, media players, browsers etc.

It is important to know that although software is all useful. Not all of them are free. There are
software programs that are only usable within a trial period called Cripple ware. Some may even
contain viruses like Malwares. Still, there is available software that users can enjoy for free
called Freeware. Although free, Freeware oftentimes offer only basic functionality. Some may
offer full functionality in exchange of advertisements and/or watermarks. On the other hand,
Open Source Applications are different because they are fully functional programs that contains
no ads or watermarks despite being free.

The VLC media player by VideoLAN

Community is an example of an open source
software. It is entirely free because the
software development is being run by
Volunteers alone.

The Libre office is also a free and open

source software based on OpenOffice.org
(commonly known as OpenOffice). It is
developed also by volunteers through their
Libre Office community.

A computer technician should always be equipped with the tools, equipment and
software that are needed in maintaining and diagnosing computers systems. When it comes to
software, installers are one of those must haves.

He/she should know the difference between Offline/Standalone Installer and

Online/Web Installer. And must always adhere with the software’s End User Agreement while
following the Software Utilization Guide.

Activity 3
Interview a PC Technician through Chat or SMS or Calls and asked him/her the ff. questions:
● What particular installers do you usually bring during PC Check-up and/or
troubleshooting?
● What Operating System are you most comfortable with?
● How do you keep your technical knowledge up to date?
