Main Idea:
Culture, Society, and Politics are concepts. They cannot be seen or touched and yet they
influence the way we see and experience our individual and collective lives as social beings. It
is a tool to discover new aspects of phenomenon/issues or even deconstruct old ones and
replace them with something new. Sociality is defined by the very categories that human
possess that are assigned by society at large. They are socially constructed.

Main Idea:
Sociology focuses on the ubiquity (present everywhere) of social forces in unlikely forms i.e.
sex, gender, religion, etc., it represent a constellation of unseen yet powerful forces influencing
the behavior of individuals and institutions. Anthropology seeks to uncover principles of behavior
that apply to all human communities, it focuses on human diversity around the world, and it
looks at cross-cultural differences in social institutions, cultural beliefs and communication
styles. Political Science the systematic study of government and politics, analyses about
political system, behavior and uses to predict future behavior.
Examples:
Sociology was born in Europe with the father of discipline, August Comte. It focuses on the
ubiquity of social forces, the behavior of individuals and institutions. The American
Anthropological Association describes as a science of seeking to uncover principles of behavior
that apply to all communities, and it is also called “a child of colonization”. It focuses on human
diversity. On the other hand, Political Science study of government and politics, it includes the
study of political philosophy, ethics, international relations and the dynamic relations between
different parts of government. The story of the political science is a crib version, where the
disciplines problematize the nature of power and studies how possession and exercise of power
can shape individual actions and collective decisions for that matter.

Learning Target: Determine the concept of a Society and culture and its relationship
Main Idea:
Society represents an idea type which more or less depicts the form and dynamics of the social
reality it embodies. Its origin are (1) the structural functional, (2) conflict theory (3)symbolic
interactionism. Culture is a central concept in anthropology, encompassing the rage of
phenomena that are transmitted through social learning in human societies. Culture and Society
are independent and interactive yet they express different aspects of the human situation.
People carry and transmit culture but are not culture, no society can operate without cultural
directives. The interdependence and the reciprocal relationship between culture and society
must always be keep in mind.

Main Idea:
Culture is the possession of man. It revolves around the three essences of culture as a
system. Culture is social, it varies from society to society, it is shared, it is learned, it is
transmitted among members of society, it is continuous and cumulative, and it is
gratifying and idealistic. Since cultures seems to be universal human phenomenon it
occurs naturally to wonder whether culture corresponds to any universal human need.
Culture has certain functions for both the individual and society; (1) culture defines
situations, (2) culture defines attitudes, values and goals, (3) culture defines myths,
legends and supernatural, (4) cultural provides behavior patterns

Main Idea:
Ethnocentrism refers to the tendency of each society to place its own culture patterns at
the center of things. It is the act of evaluating other cultures according to preconceptions
originating in the standards and customs of one’s own culture. Being ethnocentric
means using our culture into a yardstick with which to measure all other cultures as
good or bad, high or low, right or queer in proportion as they resemble/similar ours. It
encourages the solidarity of a group, hinders the understanding or the cooperation
between groups and conflict of course often leads to social change. Ethnocentrism a
vehicle for promotion of social change.

a very important support pillar in society. Education also refers to the process through
which skills, knowledge and values are transmitted from the teachers to the learners.

Main Idea:
Socialization refers to a lifelong social experience by which people develop their

Main Idea:
The Philippines is now facing the pandemic called N-Corona Virus. With this pandemic
the country faces economic crisis. Many companies closed, many are died and as of
now, still we are conquering this battle. How the government especially our president
faces the mourning of his countrymen? President Duterte tried his best to overcome this
pandemic despite of his condition. He used his power and authority to implement the
different laws to assure the protection of his nation against this threat/pandemic, i.e.
creating group of people or agency to monitor and prepare a laws and programs for the
safety of his countrymen, giving the authority to the finance department to use the
budget for the next year to give assistance, like cash and groceries to every family, and
also imposing the Dept. Of Education to continue the school year in this amidst of
pandemic. Let us support the programs of our President for our safety against this

Main Idea:
Economic Institutions are nonmarket institutions, market system and international trade.
Reciprocity, Transfer and Redistribution are all considered as non- market transactions

Market system is a type of economic system that allows the free flow of goods between
and among private individuals and firms with very limited participation from the
government, i.e. private property, freedom of enterprise and choice, self-interest,

Patterns of unequal access to social resource are commonly called social inequality.
Social inequality reflects innate differences between individuals for example their

Main Idea:
Social, cultural and political changes are triggered by either new ideas and technologies or by
new people and cultures. People have functional as well as dysfunctional ways of responding
these changes. There are also new challenges that human communities face that require new
ways of responding. Social change refers to an alteration in the social order of a society, it may
include changes in nature, institutions, behavior or relations (it takes place in human interactions
and interrelations. Cultural change deals with the evolution of cultural components,
modification of a society through innovation, invention, discovery, or contact with other societies.
