Main Idea:
Culture, Society, and Politics are concepts. They cannot be seen or touched and yet they
influence the way we see and experience our individual and collective lives as social beings. It
is a tool to discover new aspects of phenomenon/issues or even deconstruct old ones and
replace them with something new. Sociality is defined by the very categories that human
possess that are assigned by society at large. They are socially constructed.

Activity Title: Data Retrieval Chart


Learning Target: Understand the benefits of recognizing the operation of social forces and the
shared concerns of sociology, anthropology, and political science with respect to the nature of
social change

Main Idea:
Sociology focuses on the ubiquity (present everywhere) of social forces in unlikely forms i.e.
sex, gender, religion, etc., it represent a constellation of unseen yet powerful forces influencing
the behavior of individuals and institutions. Anthropology seeks to uncover principles of behavior
that apply to all human communities, it focuses on human diversity around the world, and it
looks at cross-cultural differences in social institutions, cultural beliefs and communication
styles. Political Science the systematic study of government and politics, analyses about
political system, behavior and uses to predict future behavior.

Examples:

Sociology was born in Europe with the father of discipline, August Comte. It focuses on the
ubiquity of social forces, the behavior of individuals and institutions. The American
Anthropological Association describes as a science of seeking to uncover principles of behavior
that apply to all communities, and it is also called “a child of colonization”. It focuses on human
diversity. On the other hand, Political Science study of government and politics, it includes the
study of political philosophy, ethics, international relations and the dynamic relations between
different parts of government. The story of the political science is a crib version, where the
disciplines problematize the nature of power and studies how possession and exercise of power
can shape individual actions and collective decisions for that matter.

Activity Title: Differentiate Culture and Society

Learning Target: Determine the concept of a Society and culture and its relationship

Main Idea:
Society represents an idea type which more or less depicts the form and dynamics of the social
reality it embodies. Its origin are (1) the structural functional, (2) conflict theory (3)symbolic
interactionism. Culture is a central concept in anthropology, encompassing the rage of
phenomena that are transmitted through social learning in human societies. Culture and Society
are independent and interactive yet they express different aspects of the human situation.
People carry and transmit culture but are not culture, no society can operate without cultural
directives. The interdependence and the reciprocal relationship between culture and society
must always be keep in mind.

Activity Title: Pictionary

Learning Target: Identify the aspects and functions of culture.

Main Idea:

Culture is the possession of man. It revolves around the three essences of culture as a
system. Culture is social, it varies from society to society, it is shared, it is learned, it is
transmitted among members of society, it is continuous and cumulative, and it is
gratifying and idealistic. Since cultures seems to be universal human phenomenon it
occurs naturally to wonder whether culture corresponds to any universal human need.
Culture has certain functions for both the individual and society; (1) culture defines
situations, (2) culture defines attitudes, values and goals, (3) culture defines myths,
legends and supernatural, (4) cultural provides behavior patterns

Examples:

“Pagmamano” one of the values of Filipino that we inherited


and it build up through the ages. It is the product of one
human/society that identifies/distinguished an individual from
another individual.

Activity Title: Ethnocentrism


Learning Target: Explain Ethnocentrism as one of the features of cultures and its
function to the society

Main Idea:

Ethnocentrism refers to the tendency of each society to place its own culture patterns at
the center of things. It is the act of evaluating other cultures according to preconceptions
originating in the standards and customs of one’s own culture. Being ethnocentric
means using our culture into a yardstick with which to measure all other cultures as
good or bad, high or low, right or queer in proportion as they resemble/similar ours. It
encourages the solidarity of a group, hinders the understanding or the cooperation
between groups and conflict of course often leads to social change. Ethnocentrism a
vehicle for promotion of social change.

Examples:

1. Judging the behavior and beliefs of people who are different from you.
2. Believing that there are primitive/ancient cultures, especially if their way of life is
different from yours.
3. Thinking of another culture’s traditional food as weird or gross.

Activity Title: Identification of Cultural Heritage

Learning Target: Analyze Culture as Heritage, tangible and intangible heritage

Main Idea:
Culture has tangible and intangible components. They are called as material (tangible)

and nonmaterial (intangible) components of culture. Cultural artifacts both tangible and

intangible may become “heritage objects” by their complete age and association with

momentous historical events and noteworthy personalities. Preservation of cultural

heritage is tantamount to protecting them from external threats.

Learning Target: To be able to understand the Functions of Education

Main Idea:
Education is the social institution that formally socializes members of society, it remains
a very important support pillar in society. Education also refers to the process through
which skills, knowledge and values are transmitted from the teachers to the learners.

Examples:

Manifest Functions of Education- equips people with the knowledge and skills
needed to take on different roles that society needs; it transmits culture, skills and
values, it also teaches social control as its students respect for authority and conformity
to rules and laws; Latent Functions of Educations are venues expanding people’s
network where you can possible find a spouse, business partner, or friends that you can
keep for life, it also required collaboration and interpersonal relation with people who
you may not know you very well and who may even have contrasting opinion from

Activity Title: Mirror of Myself

Learning Target: Analyze the roles of groups and institutions as agents of social control.

Main Idea:
Socialization refers to a lifelong social experience by which people develop their
human potential and learn culture. Enculturation the process by which people learn the
requirements of their surrounding culture and acquire the values and behaviors
appropriate or necessary in that culture. Socialization teaches impulse control and helps
individuals develop a conscience, it teaches how to prepare for and perform certain
social roles and it cultivates shared sources of meaning and value.

Activity Title: Argumentative Essay

Learning Target: Analyze the socialization, conformity and deviance

Main Idea:

Alignment is coursed through the process of socialization where members of


society starting from birth to the norms, values. Conformity is the anticipated behavior to
follow. Deviance as violations of the norms. When individuals become members of
society, they are accountable under the norms and laws of that society

Human Rights:
Article 10: Everyone is entitled in full equality to a fair and public hearing by an
independent and impartial tribunal, in the determination of his rights and obligations and
of any criminal charges against him. Deviants is a tricky issue that can’t easily identified
unlike the criminals, however both are accused in the same way, but they are not equal/
fair in terms of punishment.

Learning Target: Discuss and enumerate the different forms of kinship and evaluate the

Main Idea:

Kinship is a social institution that refers to relations formed between members of


society. The relationships developed in different ways. On birth or blood relations,
marriage or through the acceptance of rituals. To established political system where
power structures are defined to ensure that conflicts are managed. The task of
organizing a political community requires the existence of leaders. It is important to
understand how individuals have organized themselves into social and political groups
or communities.
Examples:

The Philippines is now facing the pandemic called N-Corona Virus. With this pandemic
the country faces economic crisis. Many companies closed, many are died and as of
now, still we are conquering this battle. How the government especially our president
faces the mourning of his countrymen? President Duterte tried his best to overcome this
pandemic despite of his condition. He used his power and authority to implement the
different laws to assure the protection of his nation against this threat/pandemic, i.e.
creating group of people or agency to monitor and prepare a laws and programs for the
safety of his countrymen, giving the authority to the finance department to use the
budget for the next year to give assistance, like cash and groceries to every family, and
also imposing the Dept. Of Education to continue the school year in this amidst of
pandemic. Let us support the programs of our President for our safety against this
pandemic.

Economic Institutions are nonmarket institutions, market system and international trade.
Reciprocity, Transfer and Redistribution are all considered as non- market transactions

Main Idea:

We live in changing environment. The challenges that we face as a human community


change over time, and our tools and techniques to address these challenges change.
Problems evolve and new problems emerge, our ability to respond to these problems is
altered by changing technologies and ideas. Societies can respond to change by
adapting to it in functional ways. Change can also disrupt and destabilize society and
lead to a point of conflict, tension and even violence. Some of the issues that we are
