Q4. Read the paragraph carefully and answer the following questions:
Soft drinks are enormously popular beverages consisting primarily of carbonated
water, sugar, and flavourings. Carbonated water constitutes up to 94% of a soft
drink. Carbon dioxide adds that special sparkle and bite to the beverage and also
acts as a mild preservative. Carbon dioxide is an uniquely suitable gas for soft
drinks because it is inert, non-toxic, and relatively inexpensive and easy to liquefy.
The second main ingredient is sugar, which makes up 7-12% of a soft drink. Used
in either dry or liquid form, sugar adds sweetness and body to the beverage,
enhancing the "mouth-feel," an important component for consumer enjoyment of a
soft drink.
Q.1 Is soft drink a pure substance or mixture? (1)
Q.2 Identify and write the solute and solvent present in soft drinks. (1)
Q.3 State whether true or false: Sugar forms the major ingredient in terms of
quantity in soft drinks. (1)

2. Both A and B are true and R is not the correct explanation for A.
3. A is true but B is false.
4. A is false but R is true.
