Subject Nature : Theory
Coordinator : Prof. Dipti Patra
Syllabus
Fundamental steps in digital image processing, Components of an image processing system, Image sampling and quantization, Image
enhancement in spatial domain, Image enhancement in frequency domain, Noise models, Image restoration, Color image processing,
Image compression, Morphological image processing, Image segmentation, Image representation, Image description.
Course Objectives
1. Describe and explain basic principles of digital image processing.
2. Design and implement algorithms that perform basic image processing (e.g. noise removal and image enhancement).
3. Design and implement algorithms for advanced image analysis (e.g. image compression, image segmentation).
4. Assess the performance of image processing algorithms and systems in various applications
Course Outcome
On successful completion of this course students will be able to:
• Demonstrate on broad range of fundamental image processing and image analysis techniques and concepts (linear and non-linear
filtering, denoising, deblurring, edge detection, segmentation, morphological operators, compression etc.)
• Identify, Demonstrate and apply their knowledge by analyzing image processing problems and employing (or proposing) effective
solutions.
• Design and create practical solutions to a range of common image processing problems and to critically assess the results of their
solutions, including shortcomings
