LESSON IN PLAN IN SCIENCE 9

GRADE 9 EUCLID & DARWIN

7:40-8:40;10:00-11:00MTThF

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standard
 Prevention, detection, and treatment of diseases affecting the circulatory and
respiratory system
B. Performance Standard
 Conduct and information dissemination activity of effective ways of taking care of
the respiratory and circulatory system based on the data gathered from the school or
local health workers
C. Learning Competencies / Objectives
 Infer how one’s lifestyle can affect the functioning of the respiratory and circulatory
systems.
 Identify ways of detecting and preventing diseases in the respiratory and Circulatory
systems.
 Appreciate the importance of a healthy lifestyle in avoiding such diseases.

II. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. Topic: Respiratory and Circulatory Systems Working with the other Organ Systems;
B. Reference: Science 9 Teacher’s Guide pp. 9-16; Science 9 Learner’s Material pp. 21-
26
C. Materials: Images of several illnesses related to circulatory and respiratory system,
laptop, manila paper, pentel pen.

III. PROCEDURE

A. Activity
 Let the students do the breathing exercise (inhale through the nose and exhale using
their mouth) following a sequence of long inhalation and short exhalation. Let them
do the process three times. Instruct the students to do 2 sudden inhalations and 1
short exhalation.
B. Abstraction
1. How did you feel during the breathing exercise? Are you comfortable with that
breathing pattern?
2. What organs were involved during the activity? What are the systems in our body
are being used?
3. Were you able to experience or know someone that is suffering from breathing
difficulties? What are the causes?
 The teacher will post images of illnesses related to respiratory and circulatory system.
All four pictures in each given set depict negative ways of living. They are connected
by one common word that indicates the effect of one’s lifestyle on the functioning of
the respiratory and circulatory systems. The expected answers are illnesses that are
brought about by the negative lifestyles. Write your answers in the box provided for
each number

A____A H____T_____N A____A

C. Analysis
1. What do you think are the prime factors of these illnesses?
2. Aside from their sedentary lifestyles, what other risk factors that can increase the
chance of getting these illnesses?
3. How does drugs affect the normal physiology of our Respiratory and Circulatory
Systems? Can you give an example of these drugs?

 Explain the effect of drugs in our system which mainly targets the Sympathetic
Nervous System. It will increase the breathing cycle per minute and will cause
tachycardia or increase heart rate.
4. How can we prevent these illnesses? What are examples of a healthy lifestyle?

D. Application
 Let the students go their group and perform the activity “Prevention is better than
Cure” (refer to Science 9 LM page 22).
 The group will create a story that illustrates various ways of preventing diseases that
affect the respiratory and circulatory systems. They must also show the importance of
keeping our bodies healthy and free from illnesses.
 Let them present the story in front of the class by means of role-playing.
 Consider the following criteria to serve as their guide in completing the given task.

Criteria Percentage
Preparation 15%

Achievement of Objective 35%

Imagination and Creativity 30%

Presentation 20%

TOTAL 100%
IV. ASSESSMENT

 Performance Task: Let the students(same group) follow the guidelines in

“Information Dissemination Activity” (refer to Science 9 LM page 26)
 The task of the group is to present helpful information to the public about effective
ways of taking care of the respiratory systems based on the gathered data from school
and health centers.

V. ASSIGNMENT

 In a ¼ Illustration board, create a poster with a theme “Information Dissemination on

How to Take Care of the Respiratory and Circulatory Systems.
