Learning Episode 3
Understanding Action Research Concepts, Processes and Models
Action research has been embraced in education for its value in transforming school
practices by the practitioners themselves. It is used to address practical problems in the
classroom. It is a process that allows teachers to study their own classroom and school setting
to improve their effectiveness. Teacher Action Research (TAR) is a method for educational
practitioners (teachers, school leaders) to engage in the assessment and improvement of their
own practice. It is a tool to help classroom teachers consider their teaching methods or to
adopt a strategy in order to solve everyday problem in the school setting.
Understanding fully the concept and the process of Action Research will enable you to
learn and provide the needed assistance to your teacher mentor in doing Action Research.
Notice
1. What concepts have been emphasized in the task and infographics? Give at least four.
1. Action Research is a dynamic process anchored on Reflection—Action Cycle
of Observing Reflecting, Acting, Evaluating and Modifying.
2. Action research is a cyclical, recursive process of observe
>reflect>act>evaluate>modify>move in a new direction is known as action-
reflection (McNiff & Whitehead, 2006). Action research as a form of inquiry
that enables practitioners to investigate and evaluate their work.
3. Action research as a recursive or repeated process, proceeding through
spiraling cycle of planning, actions, reflections and change. (Correy, 1953)
4. Action research cycle that starts with Observe followed by Reflect, Plan and
Act which can also go through evaluation and modification. It also follows a
cyclical process.
2. Since the 3 models are all for action research, what are the common elements of the
three?
Analyze
Choose the Action Research sample Abstract that you submitted in Episode 2.
Analyze the components vis-à -vis only one model out of the 3 presented.
If you choose to compare with Model A-McNiff & Whitehead, 2006, here are the components.
Title and Author of the Action Research: The Effect of the Teacher's Teaching Style on
Students' Motivation by: Maria Theresa Barberos, Arnold Gozalo, Euberta Padayogdog S
REFLECT Reflection: The teacher must recognize the diversity and complexity
in the classroom. It is very necessary that we need to understand the
need to be motivated in doing our work well, so as to have motivated
learners in the classroom.
PLAN Plan of Action: The type of research will be qualitative because they
EVALUATE Findings: This action research apply to all the teachers and students
too. This research is must be read and worth of sharing because it
will help them to know the needs of their students and helping
students to understand better in the classroom.
MODIFY Recommendations: Yes, it can modify by having interview in some
students to get new results. Nothing to move or change another cycle
of action research.
If you choose to compare with Model B-Nelson, O. 2014, here are the components.
Title and Author of the Action Research: Understanding the Effectiveness of Teacher
Attributes by: By Jennifer King Rice
REFLECT Reflection: This research needs to achieve his study includes five
broad categories of measurable and policy-relevant indicators to
organize the teacher characteristics assumed to reflect teacher
quality. Doing action research are very important to everyone
especially to the practice teaching of future teachers.
PLAN Plan of Action: The type of research will use in this action research is
qualitative also to get some answers on students. The strategy that I
will use is by interview students about this topic.
ACT Implementation: In seeking and put this plan into action I will make
some presentation. I gather data by interview students.

If you choose the DepEd Model, 2017, here are the components.
Title and Author: The Effect of the Teacher's Teaching Style on Students' Motivation
Key Components Action Research Process
I. Context and Rationale Study Background: I am doing this action
research to give motivation as well as I give
knowledge to my students. The background of
my action research is the teachers’ teaching
styles and strategies are currently being
used to encourage a conducive learning climate.
II. Action Research Question Action Research Questions: The question I trying
to solve is the question “How does teacher's
teaching style affect students' motivation? “I
hope to achieve this action research is the styles
and strategies will help my students to learn and
motivated at same time.
What have you understood about the concept of Action Research and how will these be
utilized in your practice?
The concepts of this action research get knowledge in motivate and learning. These
will be utilized in my practice teaching to apply all .these strategies.
Reflect
Based on the readings you made and the previous activities that you have done.
As a future teacher, action research is worth doing because it’s enables teachers
to reflect on their practice to improve it, become more autonomous in professional
judgement, develop a more energetic and dynamic environment for teaching and
learning, articulate and build their craft knowledge, and recognize and appreciate their
own expertise. Research can help teachers to understand what works and why, what
the short and long-term implications are, provide a justification and rationale for
decisions and actions, help to build a repertoire to help deal with the unexpected,
identify problems, inform improvement and so forth
1. OBSERVE
Thinking deeply about those problems, perhaps something must have been
done to solve the problem or answer the question, like:
a. Give enough school works to your students
b. Have a consideration to all of your students and motivate them to study
hard so that they encourage to life must go on and to know their
priorities.
c. Creating learning environments that reinforce the view that students can
master academic subjects. Students are motivated to compete with
themselves to meet higher and higher self-determined goals.
3. PLAN
Now that I am in FSt 2, I plan to make a plan to all of this because to helps the
students to lessen their work can have a time to do some activities in other subject also,
they can have time to bonding and to talk to their family. Next is to motivate and have a
consideration because in today that we facing the pandemic and this pandemic gives to
many people anxiety, stress and depression. Lastly to create learning environments to
increased sense of self-efficacy that promotes academic achievement.
4. ACT
My action will come later, given enough time in FSt 2 or during my Teaching
Internship.
Work on my Artifacts
