Statement of Purpose: Bachelor of Commerce and Part Time MBA
My name is Maneet Singh and I am applying for Cape Breton University, Canada to pursue for my
higher studies in Business Management for September, 2019 intake.
Language Abilities – 7.0 Bands (Listening: 8.0, Reading: 6.5, Writing: 6.0, Speaking: 6.5)
After my matriculation, I opted Commerce stream of study which gave me a new direction of study
with subjects like business management, finance, economics and accounts that changed my life. Some
of my best days were spent studying those subject matter, since then, I have wanted to be a Business
management professional. After the completion of grade 12 th I studied Bachelors of Commerce
from Delhi University, which is one of India`s prestigious Universities.
Soon after completing my regular studies, I decided to venture into the practical corporate world, and
I was fortunate enough to get an opportunity to work with Genpact in 2010. I started working as a
customer care executive for UK bank cards in the inbound contact centre wherein I managed large
number of calls pertaining to customer credit card issues, complaints and inquiries. My job
responsibilities involved identifying customer need, clarify information, research every issue,
providing solutions and make sure in keeping customer satisfaction at the core of every decision and
behaviour. After 1 year I was promoted to complaint line wherein calls get escalated and
customer willing to speak with supervisor. Later I moved to different account and domain for US
client, for which I am managing accounts payable function, it includes review and verify invoices and
check requests, code and match invoices to PO, audit employee expense reports, research and resolve
invoice discrepancies and issues, preparing SLA’s, process dashboard and other necessary reports,
managing team members. I am currently working as an Assistant manager in the same
organization.
After completing 1 year with the organization I was rewarded with an opportunity to study an
MBA program sponsored by the company. As a result, I completed my Part time executive
MBA(finance) from Amity university in the year 2013. During my long years of work experience, I
realized that these days’ companies require professionals to have perspective from education
awareness and practical experience. Hence while I was looking for an opportunity to change my job, I
couldn`t get a good option in the companies of my choice, since the designations that I was aiming at
hired people with 15-20 yrs of experience or an international qualification in the field of management.
As a result, I decided to go back to studies and chose to specialize in Business management. This type
of program is ideal for me because it not only provides academic awareness but also gives an
exposure to International business study. Moreover, I wish to focus on both the theoretical and
practical side of the management and want to learn the art of communication. It will be helpful to
shape my ideas and thoughts in a better manner because my ideas will be challenged by international
lecturers and students which in turn will help me to respond diplomatically and I can certainly take
away keys points that will make me more capable to seal the important deals of my future career.
While searching for the right institute I landed at Cape Breton University after doing a thorough
research and following long discussions with friends and family. I was very impressed to know that
the university offers a unique learning model that will help me to get most out of my studies. The
Business Management offered at CBU explores important business aspects required to embrace
change within an organization. The program structure provides opportunities for you to apply your
skills of marketing, economics and business management with a real-world focus. Along with this, I
will have the unique opportunity to get hands-on experience through the completion of an
internship or a capstone project.
Canada’s high academic standards and quality controls mean that we’ll be earning a high-quality
education that will open doors for our future and benefit our career over the long term. A Canadian
degree is globally recognized as being equivalent to those obtained from the United States or
Commonwealth countries. The quality of education and living standards in Canada are amongst the
highest in the world, but the cost of living and tuition fees for international students are generally
lower than in other countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom.
Service Industry is booming in India. Owing to abundance of cheap labour here, most IT giants
have been shifting their base to India and set up a service delivery centre for shared service. Be
it IBM, TCS, Accenture, Cognizant or Capgemini- all boast of majority of workforce stationed in
India. Given the volume of employment these companies generate, chances are fair that you might
land up in any MNC or domestic firm as a Social Media manager, Business Advisor, Project
Manager, Team Leader, Operations Manager, business investigator and numerous more
assignments relies on the specialization. Additionally, the normal pay would not be under 18 lakhs for
every annum. Industry is glamorous and too lucrative to refuse as they are expanding their business
by setting up more delivery centres across India. With the help of this course I will be more capable to
understand the complexity of international business in today’s economy and also help me to develop
abilities required to manage across borders cultures and functions, providing me with strong
international managerial skills and competencies to succeed in leading position in India.
At this phase of my career, higher education from a reputed university where I can upgrade my
knowledge with the latest trends and also have the opportunity to implement them with innovative
ideas to solve real world problems could add a lot more value into my profile. Without this knowledge,
I will not be able to compete at expert level and work with multinational companies and eventually
lead the companies. So, I decided to get this knowledge and skill set by adding better education into
my career. Business management post-graduates can target a place for themselves practically anywhere.
As every institution and organisation needs some kind of managers to run their business in a smooth way.
Though it can be a financial manager, operations manager or a strategic manager. Salary expectation at
these positions are always stupendous. Further employment opportunities are always created by MNC’S as
well as by small and medium companies expanding their boundaries across other countries.
To wrap up, I would like to state that, I will be very grateful if I got this chance as it will help me to
fulfil my aspirations.
