INTRODUCTION:

The Social Work is a professional course builds the students who are socially
concerned and competent to meet the social needs and development of human
being. The post graduation course tries to promote a sense of social responsibility
and commitment towards the needy, vulnerable and the marginalized sections of
society. Both theoretical knowledge and practical help students to develop the
skills required for professional social work practice. Field work is an important
part of social work. The concept and all parts of problems are grasped and
understood by working in the field the observations of the social worker in the
field also plays an important role in the field work. Field work provides an
opportunity to students to apply their theoretical knowledge taught in the class
room appropriately in different practical situations.
OBJECTIVES OF FIELD WORK:

 To get exposed to wider area of social realities at the micro level


 To develop analytical and assessment skills of social problems at the level
of individual, group and community and local, regional, national and
international dimensions
 To acquire documentation skills to ensure professional competence
 To develop the right values and attitudes required for a professional social
worker.
ORIENTATION:

The orientation program was organized by the faculty on 17-07-2019.The


resources person was Mr. Mano selvaraj.MSW. LLB. The resources person
explained the trainees about the Indian constitution and certain fundamental rights
and duties. The topics covered by the resources person are as follows:

 About Indian constitution


 About social work
 About central and state government
 About FIR- First information report
 About IO- Investigation officers
 About the collegiums
 About the retirement of judges
 Case that has been taken by the resource person are as follows:
 Case on discrimination
 Case on environment
 Case on murder
 Case on refugees
 Case on children
 Case on fire crackers
 Case on gender discrimination

Finally the resources person concluded the orientation by giving some information
that has been experienced by the resources person to become a good social worker.
The resources person also advised the trainees to develop communication skills
which plays major role in social work. The trainee got to know basics about the
Indian constitution and what are all the cases that can be taken by the social
worker. The resources person gave can idea about the case study that has been
done by the resources person in his day today life and also the helping process to
the client through available resources.

OBSERVATION VISITS:

The social work trainees had visited eight observation visits that has been
illustrated below:

These are the observation visits to NGOs , companies and hospitals that have been
visited by the social work trainees. Observation visits to those places helped the
trainees to know about the role of the HR in a company , the organization setup
and the hard work of the NGOs towards the people those who are in need of food
,clothe and shelter and to know about the case sheet in the hospitals. Observation
visits helped the trainees to develop the skills that are needed for a social worker.

VISIT-I

THE NEW LIFE CHARITABLE TRUST:

 Visit no - 1st observation visit


 Day of visit - Wednesday
 Date of visit - 24-07-2019
 Place of visit – Eraiyur

INTRODUCTION:

Observation visit to new life charitable trust is the first visit to the social
work trainees in which the trainees learned about the structure and functions of the
organization. The new life charitable trust is a registered non-governmental, non-
profitable, unpaid social service organization established in 1991.

VISION:

Selfless service and charity to the poor to make them self-sufficient.


ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT ON THE DAY:

 Visit to goshala – constructed in the year 2009, the new life trust
provided employment to the ladies from poor families in the village to
maintain goshala.
 Visited the inmates – Social work trainees asked the inmates about
them and also requested them to sing and dance .this made the
inmates to feel better.
 Interaction with the director – The director of the organization shared
about the development of the organization and the struggles that are
faced during the development of the organization.

All those activities helped the trainees to gain knowledge about the systems and
structures of the organization, which would be helpful for the trainees for their
future purpose. The trainees also developed communication skills while interacting
with the inmates.

VISIT-II

INTEGRATED RURAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY:

 Visit no: 2nd - observation visit


 Day of visit – Thursday
 Date of visit – 25-07-2019
 Place of visit – Thiruvallur

IRCDS is an voluntary organization established in the year, 1986. It facilitates


development action among the poor people in thiruvallur district Tamil Nadu,
India.
VISION:

The vision of IRCDS is to uphold love, peace, justice and equality in society.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT ON THE DAY:

 Interaction with the project officer – The project officer shared the
population census of thiruvallur district, sex ratio, education and also
about the other general causes in thiruvallur district. This helped the
trainees to learn about the helping process to the vulnerable.

VISIT-III

CORNER STONE DRUG AND ALCOHOL REHABILITATION CENTER:

 Visit no: 3rd - observation visit


 Day of visit – Wednesday
 Date of visit – 31-07-2019
 Place of visit – Thirumullaivoyal.

INTRODUCTION:

Corner stone center helps people affected by chemical dependency and


mental illness. Alcohol de-addiction, the behavior correctional treatment which
consists of various inputs: Re-education, yoga, meditation, self- assessment,
individual counseling, recreation and group therapy. The founder of corner stone
was Mr.Richard Daniel who was also a drug addicted person in his past through his
recovery he has founded corner stone.

VISION:

Corner stone aspires to be the best program for the continued recovery of
those affected by alcohol and drug addiction.
ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT ON THE DAY:

 Interaction with the counselor


 Sharing by doctor and warden

 Speech by psychologist.

VISIT-IV

BON SECOURS HOSPITAL:

 Visit no: 4th observation visit


 Day of visit – Thursday
 Date of visit – 01-08-2019
 Place of visit – Molachur

INTRODUCTION:

The bon secours hospital was started for the benefit of village people
through which good treatment were provided in emergency purpose.
ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT ON THE DAY:

 Visit to hospital

The trainees visited the out patients ward and got to know about the facilities of the
op ward, and also other activities carried out in the hospital. The trainees got to
know about the case sheet of the patient. The health condition, changes during the
treatment are observed and noted in the case sheet.

VISIT-V

MADRAS SOCIAL SERVICE SOCIETY (MSSS):

 Visit no – 5th observation visit


 Day of visit – Wednesday
 Date of visit – 14-08-2019
 Place of visit – adyar gate

INTRODUCTION:

Madras social service society works for the development of poor and
marginalized in Chennai and thiruvallur districts Tamil Nadu.

VISION:

“Creation of a just society” means an equitable society wherein all people live
with dignity and equality.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT ON THE DAY:

 Prayer service and PPT presentation


 Interaction with the resources person
 Talk by the director

Among all the observation visits this organization is considered as one of the best
organization due to its selfless service towards the people those who are really in
need of help. The director’s talk inspired the social work trainees to do social
work. The director also explained the scope of social work.

VISIT-VI

ACCURATE STEEL FORGINGS:

 Visit no - 6th observation visit


 Day of visit – Thursday
 Date of visit – 22-08-2019
 Place of visit – Thirumazhisai

INTRODUCTION:

Accurate steel forgings is a public incorporated on 6 th January 1992.It is


classified as non – government company and is registered at register of companies,
Chennai.

VISION:

We delight our clientele with reliable and pre-eminent engineered products.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT ON THE DAY:

 PPT presentation
 Talk by quality manager
 Visit to production plant
This visit was not that much satisfied because of non-availability of HR manager
other then that the trainees got to know about the systematic structure of the
company.

VISIT-VII

PRECIA MOLEN:

 Visit no - 7th observation visit


 Day of visit – Wednesday
 Date of visit – 04-09-2019
 Place of visit – Thirumazhisai.

INTRODUCTION:

Precia molen India established in 1995.It is committed to a quality approach


which encompasses its product, its work organization, its goal to meet customers
demand.

VISION:

A creative spirit, the firm’s driving force.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT ON THE DAY:

 Interaction with the HR manager


 PPT presentation

Through this activities the trainees came to know about the role of the HR manager
in precia molen and also about the CSR activities of precia molen.
VISIT-VIII

BNA AUTOMOTIVE PRIVATE LIMITED:

 Visit no- 8th observation visit


 Day of visit -Thursday
 Date of visit – 05-09-2019
 Place of visit – Thirumazhisai.

INTRODUCTION:

BNA automotive private limited is a private incorporated on 11th December


2015.It is a reliable organization engaged in manufacturing a qualitative range of
industrial products and customer satisfaction by providing quality products and
service.

VISION:

Our vision is to be a leading manufactures providing superior quality products


and service at competitive prices.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT ON THE DAY:

 Interaction with the HR manager

This was the last observation visit for the trainees which was very much useful for
the trainees to know about the HR manager. As the HR manager was appointed
newly the manager has not given sufficient information about the company.
RURAL CAMP:

The rural camp, which was organized by the department of social work,
provided an opportunity to the students to gain practical skills and to get rural
exposure, rural life style, to understand rural realities like education status, health
status, occupation status, social and political status of village . The major
objectives that were laid for the camp were met to a large extent. One of the
benefits of the camp was that students worked as a team. The students interacted
with the local community and adjusted extremely well with the food, weather and
the rural setting. The rural camp held from 22nd September to 29th September. The
trainees were divided into several committees and the work was given equally to
the trainees.

OVERALL PERSONAL LEARNING:

The social work trainee got an experience of group living in and with the
community, sharing their life and participating with them. They also applied social
work methods into practice. This rural camp created opportunities for every
student to develop a sense of team work. It helped them to break from self-circle or
self-centered thinking created by them. Trainee also learned to take
responsibilities, gain management skills, gain skills in planning, organizing
programs in the community and develop skills to conduct social surveys and
analysis.

The trainee should fully dedicate themselves towards their work and should engage
in different task which help the social work trainee to grasp knowledge about the
field work. Trainee got to know about the social issues that affect the people in
society. The present days are such that many aged persons have become homeless
and many children have become destitute. So the old age homes are increasing day
by day, The NGOs play major role for all such people and the trainee personally
learned the following things,

The social worker should strive to bring the voice of the voiceless to the voice
of the warrior. As the problems are increasing in our day –to-day life the social
worker should develop skills that help to solve the problems. The HR manager
should be extremely patient and not someone who loses his temper easily. The
social work values, principles and skills should be practiced for better social work
to the society, the trainee over all professionals learnings are following bellow,

CONCLUSION:

Field learning has always been an integral part of the social work curriculum,
given the practice nature of the profession. Clearly, social work educators and field
instructors who are well prepared and knowledgeable about approaches to learning
in field education can better understand and explain the complexity of learning in
field social work placements and design programmes for students that meet their
educational needs both individually and collectively. students are generally
motivated and ready to learn when they are in a safe, respectful environment and
are given meaningful opportunities to practice their skills, values, and ethics and
participate and contribute in the process of learning Field Learning in Social Work
Education and There are various organizations that are working for different issue
of the country. Different organizations are working in different issues such as for
children, HIV/AIDS, for women, against drugs abuse and addiction. It is a good
platform to explore the capacities of the trainees. It has good network. Field work
practice plays vital role in solving all the above issues.
