PARTS OF KEYBOARD

Keyboard- a set of keys used to input information to a computer.

First part of keyboard is Function Keys

1. Function Keys – provide fast access to commands depending on the software or


application tool that you are using. It is composed of F1 to F12 are enabled.
2. Escape Key – It is equivalent to cancel button. It allows you to return on the previous
screen of the program.

Additional Keys

*Print Screen – used to capture whatever images and text are currently display on the
screen.

* Scroll Lock – the scroll lock key was meant to lock all scrolling techniques.

3. Backspace – key use to delete from right to the left of the insertion point.
4. Tab Key – allows you to set tab stops just like in typewriter.
5. Shift Key – this key allows selection of all capital letters when depressing the alphabet
keys, or selecting the characters above other non-alpha keys.
6. Enter Key – moves the cursor to the beginning of the next line or add line space.
Other function of this key is equivalent to OK button.
7. Control Key – allows you for multiple selections. It also executes commands when
pressed in combination with some keys.
8. Space Bar – insert spaces between words.
9. Numeric Keypads – provide a calculator-style keyboard for efficient entering of
numeric data.
10. Arrow Keys – used for moving cursor or insertion point right, left, up, or down. The
arrow keys can be combined with the Shift, Option, and Command Keys.
11. Control Key – allows you for multiple selections. It also executes commands when
pressed in combination with some keys.
12. Keyboard Indicators
 Scroll Lock – the scroll lock key was meant to lock all scrolling techniques.
 Number Lock – if you want to use the numeric keypad to display numbers, the
Num Lock key must be selected (usually a light above the Num Lock will indicate
that it is on).
 Caps Lock – locks the keyboard in “All Capital Letters” mode.
13. Delete – use this key to delete from left to the right use the insertion point. You can
also to delete an object.
14. Alt – initiate various actions when pressed with other key.
15. Windows Key – will open main windows menu.
16. Home – Home key go to the first line of a document.
17. End – End go to the last line of the document.

Windows Desktop - Typical windows desktop is said to have small pictures called GUI or
Graphical User Interface, this is also the main background of the screen that has small pictures
called icons.

Desktop – the main background area of the screen composed of different small pictures called
“icon”.

Icon – these are small images that represent a file, folder, application and others.

Start Button – the very important button of windows, when clicked, it displays programs,
folders and files installed in the computer.

Task Bar- this long horizontal bar is the quick access location or folders that is currently open.

System Tray – this place shows the current time and date.

Recycle Bin – when you delete a file, windows XP will place the file into the recycle bin (instead
of deleting it altogether), this allows you to restore the file in case you deleted it by mistake.

Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word - is a software that allows you to create, edit, insert images, save data for
future use and print documents. One of the main advantages of a word processor over a
manual typewriter is that you can edit and make changes to a document without encoding the
entire document.

Parts of MS Word

1. Office Button Menu – use to display a menu of file commands such as New, Open, Save
and Save as.
2. Quick Access Toolbar – displays quick access buttons to the Save, Undo and Redo
commands.
3. Title Bar – displays the name of the open file and office programs.
4. Ribbon – runs along the top of each application window replacing the old Menus and
Toolbars.
Ribbon Components
4 ribbon components Command Tab / Tab, Contextual Tab, Command at Command
Sets
Command Tab/ Tab – these are the main sections of the ribbon; each tab leads to a
variety of different features linked together under the same category:
The Seven Tab categories are: Home, Insert, Page Layout, References, Mailings, Review
and View.
Contextual Tab - is an additional tab that is only visible when a certain object is selected
Command - individual action used to format the tool easier
Command Sets - these are the commands that are grouped together and just appear
5. Document Window Control – use these buttons to minimize the program window,
restore window or maximize to fit on your screen, and close the window.
6. Status Bar – display information about the current file, the number of pages, number of
words in your document, and the language indicator used to view the spelling and
grammatical error of your work.
7. Work Area – the area where you can work your documents.
8. Document Layout Views – it provides different ways to view your document.
9. Zoom Controls – use this feature to zoom your view of a documents.
10. Scroll Bar – use this scroll horizontal bar to scroll through the item displayed in the
work area.
11. Ruler – used to determine the alignment of text or object in the page.

Microsoft Powerpoint
Microsoft Powerpoint - is a presentation software application that is a part of Microsoft Office
package. It helps you easily create a basic presentation and produce professional looking slide
shows.

Terms and Parts in Microsoft Powerpoint

PRESENTATION - is a collection of data and information that is to be delivered to a specific


audience.
- is a collection of electronic slides that can have text, pictures, graphics, tables, sound and
video.

SLIDES - q pages in powerpoint presentation where the text, images and other objects are
added if in MS word we have a work area in MS powerpoint we have slides.

PLACEHOLDERS - dashed squares that serve as containers of objects like text and pictures you
can see the placeholders inside each slides.

NOTES PAGES is an area below of every slide. This area is used to input the speaker’s note
about his presentation.
TABS PANE - area that contains the outline and slide tab where you can edit the content of the
presentation

HANDOUT - hardcopies of all some of the slides to be given to the audience.

SLIDE VIEW- enable to see the slides in order to find a view which will suit the needs of the user
while creating his presentation.
