Method of extending the shelf life
of fish and other fishery products by
applying the principle of chemistry,
engineering and other branches of
science in order to improve the
quality of the products.

PHASES OF FISH
CULTURE
1. Fish Propagation
It is the natural or artificial
method of promoting
reproduction and survival of
fish.
METHODS OF FISH PROPAGATION
a. Natural Method - man does not
interfere in the reproduction cycle
of the organism.
b. Artificial method – made possible
by injecting hormones or pituitary
materials taken from another fish
of the same species.
2. Fish Cultivation
It is the rearing of fish
and other aquatic
products from their very
young stage.
METHODS OF FISH CULTIVATION
1. Fish pen method - this is
the square or rectangular pen
which is constructed in the
shallow lakes.
Fish Pond Method
Open Water Method
It is used in cultivating
mussels, oysters, and clams;
done in bays, seas, and
lagoons.
3. Fish Conservation
It is the public control and
maintenance of the various
fisheries or areas where fish
and other fishery products
are conserved.
METHODS OF CATCHING FISH
1. DRAINING – it is done by
draining completely the pond
water, and then, the fish is
collected using a scoop net
2. GILL NETTING – it is used for
selective harvesting where the
stock if of multiple sizes.
