    Exercise 5
    Create a dialogue that discuss how to use simple past and past continuous tense appropriately!
    Boby : Hai Mila! Are you busy in this Friday?
    Mila : Yes, I am
    Boby : Oh, Ok. What are you going to do?
    Mila : I’m going to study English and I am also going to practise with my vocal coach.
    Boby : What about you Tasya?
    Tasya : Hmmm. I will watch TV. Why?
    Boby : Oh nothing. I’m going to study together with Selena. I thought you guys are free.
    Mila : Oh then. I have so much free time. Hahaha
    Tasya: Why don’t you say so? Forget about what I said. I will study with you guys.
    Boby : Yeah we will study together then. In the Jack’s home
    Boby : I wanna discuss about how to use simple past and past continuous tense. Do you know
    about both of them? I’m stiil confused what teacher said before in the class.
    Tasya : Hmmm.. me too
    Mila : Oh okay i will explain about it. Because I have ever learned it in my course. Simple past
    tense and past continuous tense are tenses that tell a event in the past. But there are a
    different about both of them. So we use simple past tense to talk about an event that
    finished at the point in the past. For Example : She got up, went to the zoo, had breakfast.
    You can add the adverb of time like yesterday, last night etc. But for Past continuous
    Tense, we use to talk about an event that was in progress at a ime in the past or when
    another event happened (simple past tense). For example: She was having breakfast when
    her friend arrived. While, he was walking to school, it started to rain. I am helping my
    mother. We must understand that there are two activities happen in the past. Both was
    happening at a certain period of time in the past.
    Tasya: So what’s the pattern of simple past tense and past continuous tense?
    Jesika : I know, the pattern of simple past tense is S+ V2 (did/didn’t) + O. And for the pattern of
    past continuous tense is S+was/were+Ving+O.
    Boby : Oh... Oke I have know it now.
    Mila : Okay so the clonclusion is simple past tense used to talk event in the past and not use the
    spesific time without any additional hours, time etc. While past continuos tense tells
    something more specific. We explain the process or what progress is happening in the past.

    Answer: I know about Charles Dickens’s career is an indefatigable letter writer, and
    campaigned vigorously for children's rights, education, and other social reforms. He
    edited a weekly journal for 20 years, wrote 15 novels, five novellas, hundreds of short
    stories and non-fiction articles, lectured and performed extensively. So he had become an
    international literary celebrity for his humor, satire, and keen observation of character and
    society.

    Answer: No, Charles Dickens wasn’t a rich kid
    4. Was Charles Dickens a great writer? Why?
    Answer: Yes. Charles Dickens was a great writer. Because he created some of the world's
    best-known fictional characters. His novels and short stories enjoy lasting popularity. His
    novels, most published in monthly or weekly instalments, pioneered the serial publication
    of narrative fiction, which became the dominant Victorian mode for novel publication.

    your writing!
    Christmas and New Year’s Holiday Story
    The last school holiday, my family and I had a trip to grandmother’s house in Dolok
    Sanggul. We travelled there by Car from Medan, approximately 8 hours trip. We left our house
    at about 8.00 a.m in the morning. On the way, we saw many beautiful scenery such as rice fields,
    mountains, lake toba, etc. We arrived at there at 4.00 p.m.
    After arrived at the grandmother’s house, we were greeted by our relatives and shook
    hands with them who had not met us for a long time. The next day, we went to Bakhara city. In
    there, we enjoyed the view of the Bahkara. There were a beautiful waterfall and swimming pool.
    When the sky got dark, we were eating roasted corn and grilled fish. After finished, we decided
    to go home at 6.00 p.m on that day.
    On the second day, we walked to Tarutung. We took a bath in the soda water bath. But we
    were very poor. There was very crowded. So we only look at it. We went to the hot water bath.
    We enjoyed the view of interesting in the swimming pool. There were many places to take
    photos.
    After that, we went to grandmother’s my cousin. We went to there in the evening. We
    arrived at 9.00 p.m. It was so dark on the way. We stayed overnight in there. Before going to
    bed, we watched our favorite Filipino movie that was still running. We watched together in the
    living room. It was very exciting. The next day, before going to home, we eat together and after
    that we said goodbye to go home.
    After arrived in Dolok Sanggul, we rest at the home. A few days later, New Year’s Eve
    arrived. We prayed and ate together. After that, we enjoyed the fireworks illuminate the night
    sky. We played with the fireworks. We were watching the view of sky with a full of the
    fireworks.
    Suddenly, the holiday passed quickly. The last new years’s holiday experience in Dolok
    Sanggul was so much fun. It was my first experience travelling to many places.In my opinion, it
    was very exciting.
