B. Motivation
Today I have here a set of pictures showing
different types of job.
I want you to observe and look carefully and
describe what have you notice in the pictures. Yes Sir.
Is it clear?

C. Presentation Sir, the women are doing household chores.

Based on your observation, what have you
notice in the picture?
Sir, the men are doing manly jobs.
You are right! Who else has an idea about the
pictures?

Yes you are both correct the pictures shows

that the women are busy doing household
chores and the men are doing physically
demanding and dangerous jobs. No, Sir!

Based on the pictures I have shown, do you

think, women always do the household chores
and men dangerous jobs?

Nowadays male and female are given equal

rights and opportunities. We are not classified
by gender regardless if you are a male or a
female you can freely choose what job suits
your skills.

Sometimes in our life we tend to judge

someone without getting the facts first and
most of the time people judge us based on what
they believe.
It has something to do with our topic for today.
and these are what we call BIAS AND
PREJUDICE.

You may say that they are both the same but
there is actually a difference between the two.
Lets define the two.
The term bias is disproportionate weight in

on a personal point of view.

Thank you Bench, again bias it is a tendency to

lean in a certain direction either in favor of or
against a particular thing, it is a personal
opinion that is one-sided and lacking a neutral
viewpoint resulting in unfairness.
Anchoring Bias
There are also 3 common types of bias. This happens when people are too relied on
current information or the initial information

and its example?
Example: From what I know, I chose you
because I believed others are not as good as
you.
Thank You. The anchoring bias is the tendency
to be overly influenced by the first piece of
information that we hear.

In this Example: From what I know, I chose

you because I believed others are not as good
as you.
Media Bias

Example: As a witness to the incident, I can
attest that the reported news is far from what I
see because the events are reversed and untrue.

Do you understand now what Bias is?

Prejudice is the negative feeling or attitude
So let’s proceed to PREJUDICE. towards a person or a group even if it lacks
basis. It is based on insufficient facts and
Gelyn will you please read the definition of usually unfavorable and/or intolerant.
Prejudice.

That is right, it is a preconceived opinion or

feeling toward a person/group without
knowledge, thought, or reason and this results
to discrimination because a person's opinion is
based on feelings not facts which simply mean Racism
to prejudge others. This is the idea that groups of people exhibit

Example: All Chinese in the country are
considered virus carriers due to the COVID-19
disease.
Thank you very much. Racism it is all about
the belief that humans may be divided into
separate and exclusive entities called “race”
that is why we tend to hate and discriminate Sexism
others. It has been linked to stereotypes and gender
roles, and may include the belief that one sex

Example: Women are considered weak and
lack the strength and ability to do the work of
men.

Classism
This is a prejudice based on sex or gender. This is a prejudice based on social class or
grouping of individuals based on wealth,
Next, yes Hya. occupation, income, education, and social
network.
Example: The poor are uneducated and do not
help our country; they should not be treated
well by the government.

Prejudice? Yes Kyle. Example: All adults should not be hired

because they only become a burden, especially
those who deserve to retire.

It is a prejudice among older people. Religion

about religion.
Example: He lost his job because of his
religion, which was believed to conflict with
his employer.

It is the negative attitudes or behavior between

people of different religious groups because of
their differing religious beliefs.

Students those are the common types of

prejudices and these types of prejudice can also
be a form of bias. Similarly, a person can be
biased because of prejudice. However,
prejudice and discrimination are different.
Prejudice refers to a person's thought or
attitude, while discrimination is the behavior
acted upon by a prejudice regarding a certain
group of people. Examples:
1. Female teachers give more attention to
For better understanding let's look at some girls.
examples, will you please read Leah. 2. He won the contest because one of the
judges is his father.
3. She got hired because of her looks.

Clearly the given examples show bias because

a person's decision is based on preference,
personal choice or taste.

1. Female teachers give more attention to

girls.
(It is one sided that the female teachers were
not giving the same attention with the boys.)
2. He won the contest because one of the
judges is his father.
(This is a way or considered to be
unfair/resulting unfairness)
3. She got hired because of her looks.
(It leans towards favoring someone or
something that’s why it considers as bias.)

And for comparison let's change the sentences

to prejudice for sentence number one.

1. Female teachers are less patient with

boys.
(The teacher has a negative evaluation on boys
thus making it prejudice.)
2. He couldn't enter the contest because he
was black.
(This shows racism he was discriminated
because of his color remember discrimination
is prejudice.)
3. She didn't get the job because she had a Yes Sir!
visible tattoo on her arms.
(This situation shows us the prejudice; she was
discriminated because of her tattoo.) None Sir.

Class do you understand now the difference

between Bias and Prejudice?

Do you have any question?

Since you already know what Bias is and

Prejudice let us now apply what you have
learned.

D. Application

Get ready with your pen and paper and be

ready to detect bias and prejudice.
I will be presenting one by one the images and
carefully identify whether it shows bias or
prejudice. (You have ten seconds to come up
with an answer.)

A.) The students need to detect bias and

prejudice base on the following image
shown.
1 2

Picture 1
Prejudice Sir.

3 4

Let us now check if your answers are right.

Number 1 is it a bias or a prejudice?

You are right the image shows PREJUDICE Picture 2

due to the spread of Covid 19 that began in Sir it is a bias.
Wuhan china some people have prejudiced
towards Chinese they have the misconception
that the virus is caused by the people of China.

Now the second picture, does it show bias or

prejudice? Picture 3
Prejudice Sir.
Very good this image shows BIAS, the scene
shows that a female character tries on a dress
for the approval of a male character which
appears displeased with her choice of clothes.

Let's now have the third image, what is your

answer?

You got it right! this is an example of Picture 4

PREJUDICE the way the people in the image It is a Bias Sir.
look at the Muslim women shows that they
hate the women they preconceived negative
characteristics of Muslim people made many
people think that Muslims are bad.

And for the last one, let’s see if you can get a
perfect score on this activity. So what is your
answer?
(student response)
You are correct this shows BIAS why it is a
bias because the image shows favor towards
the girls there is no scientific explanation that
girls are smarter than boys both genders are
capable of being smart in whatever field they
choose.

So who got perfect score?

Alright! I think we need to do some more

exercises to see how good you are in detecting
bias and prejudice, be ready again with your
pen and paper.

B.) Direction: Read the situations carefully

and identify whether it shows bias and
prejudice.
1. I think the winner for Miss Universe
should be a woman who has white
complexion.
(This is bias because the speaker is only
focusing on the physical beauty of a candidate,
not on the wholesome beauty.)
2. I hate to see a candidate who has curly
hair, protruding lips, black complexion
and big eyes. So disgusting! She is not
fit to be the titleholder.
(This is prejudice because the speaker is
discriminating the physical beauty of a
candidate, and this is a form of racism.)
3. Our school should accept only those
who share the same religious beliefs
with us.
(Based on the example, Those who are
interested to enroll in their school cannot enter
unless they share the same religious beliefs
with the members. This is bias.) Yes, Sir!
4. No students belonging to Religion Z
group should be admitted in our school
because they are foolish, dull, and

It is the negative feeling or attitude towards a

difference between BIAS and PREJUDICE?

E. Generalization
