INTRODUCTION
A terminal (or often called Airport Terminal) is a large multi - purpose building inside an airport
complex where passengers depart on a flight, or the building at which they arrive upon landing.
It also acts as a transition zone between flights.
A terminal is made up of many gates where planes halt and the passengers wait to board. In large
terminals, these gate areas may be divided into sections known as concourses, filled with dining,
shopping and lounge options, as well as restrooms and other facilities which we will list ahead.
The terminal also serves as a dual-use Fixed Base Operator hangar for airport equipment storage,
commercial office space, public meeting space and public pilot facilities. Facilities often include
a briefing area for pilots, washrooms, and lounge space for local and international pilots. The
building also has a meeting space used for meetings by the Airport Commission.
The passenger terminal complex will be a Compact Module Unit style terminal. The reason we
are choosing this style is because of its simple design and since the airport will be constructed in
Deoghar, Jharkhand the amount of daily traffic expected will be in the small - medium range.
Some advantages of the type of terminal include: Short walking distances, Longer Kerb Length
as compared to the conventional central terminal, simple baggage transportation systems, low
mishandling of baggage, and mainly that the capital investment is linearly proportional to the
size of the terminal ensuring that there are no surprise costs at later stages.
The Terminal Building will be an RCC composite structure equipped with state-of-the-art
passenger facilities. The elevation of the terminal building would be an inspired ‘Shikharas’ of
Baidyanath Temple style design. The interiors of the building will depict local tribal handicrafts,
Madhubani artwork and tourist destinations of the state highlighting the rich ethos and culture of
the region. Lastly, there will be plenty of greenery all around the complex to make it appear as an
aesthetic landscape.

BACKGROUND
Deoghar (pronounced Devaghar) is one of the holiest sacred places of Hinduism. It is the site of
one of the 12 Jyotirlingas sites of Hinduism that is Baidyanath Temple. The sacred temples of
the city make this place for pilgrimage and tourists. Also, the city has a lot of archaeological and
historical value. The age of the city is Vedic or before Vedic period as stated by Ancient Indian
books and scripts. The city is the administrative headquarter of Deoghar District at Santhal
Parganas division of Jharkhand. Deogarh district is located in the western portion of Santhal
paraganas. It is bounded by Bhagalpur district in north, Dumka in south and east and Giridhi in
west. The district extends from 24029’ N 86042' E to 24048’ N 86070’ E. and comprises 2481
sq. km area. The proposed project is a new Airport spread over an area of 650 acres is to be
constructed for the air side, Land Side.
Deoghar, located in the Deoghar district of Jharkhand state is the 5th largest city of Jharkhand. It
is situated 150 km from the region's largest city Bhagalpur. Deoghar was earlier part of Dumka
District. The nearest railway station is Baidyanathdham. Jasidih Junction is about 7 km from
Baidyanathdham railway station, which is on the main line of the Howrah-Delhi route of the
Indian railway. It is about 229 km from Patna (capital of Bihar), 322 km from Ranchi (capital of
Jharkhand).
Airport Terminal complex acts as an interface between Airside and Landside facilities etc.
Airport Terminal Area facilities at standard airports support aircraft operations including aircraft
parking and storage, fueling operations, aviation services, and storage. Individual areas at
terminals are home to a variety of critical aviation and aviation needs such as security, baggage
check in. The storage facilities will be tested to meet the current and future flight needs of
Deoghar. General facility requirements should be redesigned to accommodate the operation of
the ATR-72 aircraft and subsequently if necessary it is to be constructed to operate the A-321
aircraft, depending on the traffic demand.
INFRASTRUCTURE CONSTRUCTED

Apron – Small paved area
Terminal – Guest house & office only
CONSTRUCTION PLANS
1. APRON
Only one Apron of the Deoghar airport is proposed. Dimension of the apron is 156 m x
115 m.
2. ISOLATION BAY
Isolation is a special parking lot designed for an emergency flight such as hijacking or
bomb threat. Isolate Bay is made up of 64 m x 79 m, with 7.5 m shoulders.
4. PAVEMENT
Aprons and aircraft stands shall be constructed as rigid pavement. Flexible pavements are
not able to withstand fuel spillage or high temperatures of summer in combination with
static loads from aircraft without being damaged. Thus, concrete pavements are necessary
on aprons since fuel spillage during refueling is likely to occur. Taxiways on the other
hand can be constructed both as rigid and flexible pavements. Both pavement types have
advantages and disadvantages but none of the disadvantages makes it possible to choose
one pavement over other. It should therefore be left to the detailed design to find the most
economically beneficial pavement type.
5. PARKING SPACE
Parking for 150 cars & 5 Buses, VIP car park (15 cars), AAI and Airlines staff car /
scooter parking area at 100 m away from any building as per BCAS norms.

6. PASSENGER TERMINAL BUILDING
Construction of new passenger terminal building of total area 5400 Sq. m and features of
Low Cost Terminal Building with modular design for handling 150 arriving and 150
departing passengers at a time currently with a scope for future expansion. The building
will be provided with essential amenities for passengers, airlines such as security area,
check-in counters, single conveyor belt for departing baggage, single conveyor belt in the
arrival baggage collection area with provision/space for future installation of additional
conveyor with minimum spacing of 11 m, space for storage of baggage trolleys (300
nos.), toilet facilities for passengers including those for physically challenged persons,
adequate number of signage, Fire Fighting/ alarm system, Drinking Water Coolers,
adequate lighting inside & kerb side of the terminal building, provision of Renewable
Energy System etc. The building shall also be provided with a cafeteria/shop to provide
the eatables and other necessary requirements for the journey.
● Covered Kerb Area on city side with lanes each for arriving and departing passengers,
covered baggage make-up and break-up area on air side.
● Car park for 150 cars & 5 Buses, VIP car park (15 cars), AAI and Airlines staff car /
scooter parking area at 100m away from any building as per BCAS norms.
Construction of new technical block cum control tower
● There is one mobile ATC tower.
● Provision of control tower table and other equipment, furniture, fixtures as per
requirement of ATM, CNS & Met etc.
Construction of fire station
Construction of Fire Station Category- VII, to house 2 fire tenders and 2 ambulances.
RECENT CHANGES
1. COVID-19 And Similar Pandemics
As we all know we all are surrounded by this pandemic named covid-19, So we have to
make our terminal complex safe as in some part of your country only Airways is the only
source.
1) Best way is to install full body temperature sensors and AI based cameras to check
that the person is wearing a mask maintaining social distancing.
2) Provide a navigation system as google maps don’t work inside the airport.
5
2. Robotic Assistants
We will use the humanoid robot that helps with the passenger’s customer services. This
will be the new initiative to provide information on the go. This will be done as robots
will provide guidance in an easier format via touch screen display.
4. Smoking Zone
Many of us are addicted to smoking. So it’s necessary to provide a smoking zone.
