NARRATIVE REPORT on the 2022 SCHOOL-BASED ASSESSMENT of KINDERGARTEN with
INTEGRATION of SEVERAL SKILLS IN THE NEW NORMAL
[AKISS]
“Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and
world better than you found it”. In the amidst of pandemic the AKISS or the Assessment of
Kindergarten with the Integration of Several Skills is always conducted before the school
year ends since it was established.
Fortunately, schools are now implementing Progressive expansion of classes. Learners
are warmly welcomed to the school. Since pandemic arise in our country, many has
changed. Our ways of socializing to other people was limited and behavior of our learners
are highly affected too. Despite the unpleasant effects of COVID19 to our lives the AKISS
was pushed through because assessment to our learners is an integral part of teaching-
learning process. The following activities were done at school conducted teachers with
proper orientation to learners and constant supervision of co-teachers to protect their health
and safety and in compliance also with the health protocols of IATF. The AKISS started last
June 6 and ended last June 20,2022. The goal of the said activity is to evaluate the different
skills and domains learned by Kindergarten pupils throughout the school year.
As an opening activity, Step on Numbers was the first to be conducted. Through the
use of music, children were very energetic in doing this activity while dancing to the tune of
“Paru-paro G”, although some pupils are shy to dance because this is the first time that they
met some of their classmates, first activity is finished happily and it also enhanced their
social and physical skills.
The Assessment proper was carried on as to the scheduled day as follows:
Snake Chase – This activity was performed outside for the learners to have a
wide space to move. As I observed, learners excitedly and actively partake in the
game. Several techniques of learners to win were also showcased. This activity
builds teamwork of the group.
Circle Blind Guess – Guessing what you are holding while being blindfolded
was not an easy task. But in this activity, learners have the eagerness to join
because it is a challenging game. This activity challenged their creative thinking
Number Mosaic – Doing a mosaic takes patience, hard work and creativeness.
These skills were present while doing the activity. While doing this activity, I
can see that they are really trying hard to do it creatively and nicely.
Lacing Letter S - In this activity , skills like speed and accuracy is needed to
finish the task. All learners are focused while doing the activity. This shows that
they are concentrating to do the given task.
Fishing Game – Experiencing fishing is one of the wish of the pupils. In doing
this activity, learners were able to fulfill it. This is not just an ordinary fishing.
It is an interesting game that challenges the mathematical ability of learners.
All the pupils participated in this activity with enthusiasm. The pupils enjoyed
fishing, reading and answering each subtraction sentence.
Body Letter Relay – Using body gestures helps the learners to visualize a
letter. In doing this activity, All participants performed it with enthusiasm and
happily.

Memory Game - All pupils enjoyed this mind-stimulating game. They showed
their ability in trying to remember and recall the place of each shape card.
Many pupils were able to pick two the same shape cards. I believe that with
constant practice they will excel in this game.
Call Out Addition – Most of the learners are knowledgeable in solving the
corresponding addition equation for the number that was shown. This shows
that their numeracy skills were enhanced.
Reading – Most of the learners are developing to read. I believe that constant
practice in reading the sounds of the alphabets and phonemes can lead them to
be a proficient reader. Marungko chart is a great help for them to read.
Story telling – This activity was only performed by one pupil. However, this
pupil performed the task and done it with good intonation, variation of voices
and facial expressions. Hopefully in the next activity like this, all of them can
participate with the help of their parents.
Insights of the assessment done from the first day up to the last day, kindergarten
pupils and their parents were able to enjoy the great experience. The children showed their
abilities and their mastery on the different skills through play that served as an avenue to
achieve the main objective of this AKISS. I believe that with the constant guidance of parents
and teachers can help them to become ready to do their given tasks with courage and
strength. Even though they are still adamant to participate in some activities, it will be their
stepping stone to bravely conquest the next challenges they may face. This shows that this
COVID-19 pandemic is not an obstacle to children to enjoy the benefits of education and
prepared them holistically for their new journey in life.
