Water, a substance composed of the chemical elements’ hydrogen and oxygen and
existing in gaseous, liquid, and solid states. It is one of the most plentiful and essential of
compounds. A tasteless and odorless liquid at room temperature, it is important to dissolve
many other substances. Indeed, the versatility of water is very essential to living organism.
The Philippine education sector nowadays requires each school to have organized
system to make adequate and safe drinking water as well as clean for hand washing, toilet care,
menstrual hygiene management, and cleaning purposes available to all learners during school
hours.
Pursuant to the school-based management principle mandated by a Republic Act #
9155, the Governance of Basic Education act of 2001, daily cleaning and regular maintenance
activities as well as repair of water supply facilities in school are required.
School is a learner centered public institution, J.M. RELIQUIAS ELEMENTARY
SCHOOL shared responsibility with the government in ensuring the implementation of SBM-
Wash in school. The school and its stakeholders help hand on hand in facilitating in effective
observation of SBM-Wash in school. To ensure the water quality the school coordinate with
the Rural Health Unit for the testing of the quality of drinking water. The water sample was
taken spring. The quality of water is tested more than once a calendar year and the water result
is safe for drinking. The pupils also bring their own drinking water, some classroom have their
drinking water from refilling station, the school required and secure water certificate from this
refilling station. The water for daily hand washing, tooth brushing and cleaning of toilets is
available on a daily basis in school hours with the help of water tanks and storage container.
Each classroom has a storage container which is covered with lid.
Wash in school program if effectively implemented and practiced in every school could
improve the health and learning of every school child. The program allows children to
effectively transform knowledge into practice and it could make them healthier and happy
children for better community.

Rainwater catchment is made of cement and is located besides the
Grade V classroom. It is used for watering the plants and reserved for
emergency purposes.

provided water test results that prove our water is safe for
drinking.

Handwashing facilities are available at the
entrance of the school, in front of every
classroom, in the garden. Every area has
faucets, liquid soaps available for all
school-goers to utilize.
