1 INTRODUCTION
When assembled, the two generators and cabinets will be stacked one over
the other so perfectly that the final biplane system would appear as a single
cabinet (Figure 1).
The biplane configuration allows making exposures on two planes
simultaneously. Acquiring images from two different perspectives at the
same time provides X-ray images with a 3D-rendering. Both planes can be
used as single and independent X-ray devices, too.
The layout for the biplane configuration is diagrammed in Figure 2 below and will be detailed later
in the installation procedure.

3 Make sure the four (4) leveling feet of the upper (slave) EPS generator decorative
cabinet are taken off. Use two persons to load the slave generator (inside its
cabinet) onto the master generator’s decorative cabinet. Make sure to stack both
generators and cabinets using the same front-rear alignment (Figure 4).
4 Solidly fix both cabinets together using the hardware shown in Figure 4.

1. Unscrew and take off the Ground strap (3 places) that connects the Controller
to the chassis. One of the three straps is shown here opposite (L-bar held in Ground Straps (3)
two places). Refer also to Figure 8.

1. Interconnect J7 connector of both planes’ Controllers using the one-way Biplane Cable
P/N 9923.01. Each cable extremity is either labeled Master or Slave to ensure proper polarity connection.
2. Install the Biplane Controller Ground Cable between the two planes as shown in Figure 8.
Make sure that the ground strap is removed on the Slave plane and is present on the Master
plane.

3. Install the Biplane Ground Cable between the upper Decorative cabinet (Slave generator) and
the master generator as shown in Figure 9. This step requires that the Line Access Panel be
removed on the Master EPS Generator.

3. For both generators, connect the Tube Housing and Tube Stator wires on the Line Filter
Boards. For both planes, consider the tube to be connected as if it is a tube number 1.
Do not use the tube number 2 terminals on the Line Filter Board. See Tables 2 & 3.
4 INTERFACING
Refer to Chapter 3 of your Technical Manual to connect the different equipment to their respective
Epsilon High-Voltage generators.
If different triggers are used to expose in biplane mode, make sure they are synchronized such that
the exposure sequences are alternated on the planes, not superimposed.

4.3 Interlocks
On biplane workstations, the exposure mechanism on both planes won't start until all interlock
conditions are satisfied on both EPS generators. When an "X-ray On interlock" type is used on one
of the plane, if the interlock signal comes inactive during the exposure, the exposure will be
interrupted on that plane only.

Epsilon Biplane Configuration EPS 45-80 High-Voltage Generator
Both EPS 45-80 High-Voltage generators have their own Epsilon PC Tools configuration files.
Keep a backup of the two configuration files. Refer to Chapter 4 of your Technical Manual to
perform the system setup.
3. In the menu bar, select File /Save as to save the emd file for the Master plane (plane 1). Use
"Plane-1.emd" filename or any relevant filename.

5. In View/Options /hardware options (Figure 11), enable the biplane functionality (“; Biplane
Enabled”) for the second plane.
2. To set up a biplane workstation, enable the same workstation on both generators (; Enable
W.S., Figure 13). You can use a distinct workstation name to facilitate the display of the
respective plane on the operator console by entering a different name in the name zone for
each workstation. It is usually best to set biplane workstation as default workstation on both
generators (; Default W.S., Figure 13).
3. When Fluoro is intended for biplane mode, enable Fluoro on both generators (; Enable
Fluoro, Figure 13).
4. It is also recommended, for a given biplane workstation, to set up the same frame rate and run
length selections for both planes.

6 BIPLANE UTILIZATION

Epsilon Biplane Configuration EPS 45-80 High-Voltage Generator
Refer to Section 6 of Technical Manual P/N 9894.00 to perform the User Acceptance Testing for
the two generators. For the specific biplane functionality, perform the following procedure.
1. Make sure both generators are installed are per the instructions given in the present manual,
sections 2 thru 5.
2. Turn on the power to both generators. On the console, verify that all workstations of plane 1
are functional. Do the same for the second plane.
3. On the console, select a biplane workstation. A biplane workstation must be chosen in order to
enable making exposure on both planes simultaneously.
4. Compare the RAD parameters on both planes and make sure parameters are correctly displayed
with both planes in focus. To switch the display of planes in focus and in background, use
either the left or the right hand selection key beneath the plane shown in background, at the
bottom of the graphic screen.

5. On a biplane workstation, change any parameters in both planes and repeat step 4.
