Learning Competencies
1. Visualizes the perimeter of any given plane figure in different situations
2. Measures the perimeter of any given figure using appropriate tools
3. Finds the perimeter of triangles, squares, rectangles, parallelograms, and
trapezoids
Code: M4ME-IIIg-48 ; M4ME-IIIh-49 ; M4ME-IIIi-51
Lesson 1: Visualizes the perimeter of any given plane figure in
different situations
P = 30 cm P = 30 cm
A book is square in shape. It has four equal sides.
So to get the perimeter of a square just add the four sides.
10 cm
P=S+S+S+S or P=4xS
handkerchief
= 10cm + 10cm + 10cm + 10cm = 10 x 4cm
P = 40 cm P = 40 cm
Ruler is triangle in shape It has three sides. So to get the perimeter of a triangle just
add the three sides.
30 cm P=S+S+S or P=3xS
= 30cm + 30cm + 30cm = 3 x 30cm
Ruler
P = 90 cm P = 90 cm
Let’s Apply
Using your ruler draw the following polygons to show the perimeter. Indicate the measurement
of each side.
1. A square with a perimeter of 8cm.
2. A triangle with a perimeter of 15m.
3. A rectangle with a perimeter of 20cm.
4. A parallelogram with a perimeter of 24cm.
5. A pentagon with a perimeter of 50cm.
Let’s Analyze
Write TRUE if the perimeter is correct based on the given illustration and FALSE if it
is wrong.
c S
a w
b L
P=a+b+c P = 4s P = 2L + 2W
Let’s Apply
Follow directions.
1. Draw a rectangle.
2. Measures its sides. Then write the measurement on its corresponding sides.
3. Write the formula to find the perimeter of the figure you drew.
4. Find the perimeter.
Let’s Analyze
Find the perimeter. Each square is 1cm.
______ 1. 2. 3. 4.
Let’s Apply
Give the formula in finding the perimeter of the following figures then use it to
find their perimeters.
Let’s Analyze
Find the perimeter of each figure
2. A square has the perimeter of 96cm. What is the length of one of its sides? 3.
Aileen's flower garden has a length of 12 m and a width of 6 m. Find the perimeter.
4. Roy enclosed a vegetable garden with a fence. The four sides of the garden
measure 10 m, 8 m, 9 m, and 12 meters, respectively. How long is the fence? 5.
An equilateral triangular park has a perimeter equal to the perimeter of a
rectangular garden whose length is 25 m and whose width is 20 m. Find the
measurement of the sides of the triangular park.
