DEMONSTRATES UNDERSTANDING OF CONCEPTS TIME,
PERIMETER, AREA AND VOLUME

Learning Competencies
1. Visualizes the perimeter of any given plane figure in different situations
2. Measures the perimeter of any given figure using appropriate tools
3. Finds the perimeter of triangles, squares, rectangles, parallelograms, and
trapezoids
Code: M4ME-IIIg-48 ; M4ME-IIIh-49 ; M4ME-IIIi-51
Lesson 1: Visualizes the perimeter of any given plane figure in
different situations

Let’s Understand (Study the Concept)

Look at the illustration.
Paula wants to stay fit and so she walked
around the park everyday before going to
school. What is the distance that Paula covers
everyday?

How will you find the answer to the problem?

To solve for the answer to the problem, you add the measurements of the sides
of the park. The park has four sides.
so, 55 m + 40 m + 65 m + 35 m = 195 m
So, Paula walks a distance of 195 m every day. This distance around the park is
called perimeter.
Can you think of other ways to find the perimeter of the park? Look at
other examples on how perimeter on each figure being obtained.
5 cm Picture Frame is rectangle in shape. It has two length and two width.
So to get the perimeter of a rectangle just add 10 cm the two length
10 cm and two width.
P = 2L + 2W or P = 2(L+W)
= 2(10cm) + 2( 5cm) = 2 ( 10 cm + 5 cm)
Picture Frame
= 20 cm + 10 cm = 2 ( 15 cm)

P = 30 cm P = 30 cm
A book is square in shape. It has four equal sides.
So to get the perimeter of a square just add the four sides.
10 cm
P=S+S+S+S or P=4xS
handkerchief
= 10cm + 10cm + 10cm + 10cm = 10 x 4cm
P = 40 cm P = 40 cm
Ruler is triangle in shape It has three sides. So to get the perimeter of a triangle just
add the three sides.

30 cm P=S+S+S or P=3xS
= 30cm + 30cm + 30cm = 3 x 30cm
Ruler
P = 90 cm P = 90 cm

Let’s Apply
Using your ruler draw the following polygons to show the perimeter. Indicate the measurement
of each side.
1. A square with a perimeter of 8cm.
2. A triangle with a perimeter of 15m.
3. A rectangle with a perimeter of 20cm.
4. A parallelogram with a perimeter of 24cm.
5. A pentagon with a perimeter of 50cm.

Let’s Analyze
Write TRUE if the perimeter is correct based on the given illustration and FALSE if it
is wrong.

LESSON 2: Measures the perimeter of any given figure using

appropriate tools

Let’s Understand (Study the Con cept)

Have you ever walked around the block where

you live? If you did, you walked its perimeter. The
perimeter is the distance around the outside of a
shape. (The red line.)
How to find the perimeter of a polygon.

c S
a w

b L
P=a+b+c P = 4s P = 2L + 2W

Let’s Apply
Follow directions.
1. Draw a rectangle.
2. Measures its sides. Then write the measurement on its corresponding sides.
3. Write the formula to find the perimeter of the figure you drew.
4. Find the perimeter.

Let’s Analyze
Find the perimeter. Each square is 1cm.

______ 1. 2. 3. 4.

LESSON 3: Find the perimeter of triangles, squares, rectangles,

parallelograms, and trapezoids.

Let’s Understand (Study the Concept)

Perimeter is the distance around the polygon.
To find the perimeter of a polygon get the sum of the lengths or measurement of each
side.

Let’s Apply
Give the formula in finding the perimeter of the following figures then use it to
find their perimeters.

Let’s Analyze
Find the perimeter of each figure

Let’s Try (Evaluation/Assessment)

Solve each problem.

1 . The three sides of a triangle measure 24 cm, 34 cm, and 52 cm. What is the perimeter
of the triangle?

2. A square has the perimeter of 96cm. What is the length of one of its sides? 3.
Aileen's flower garden has a length of 12 m and a width of 6 m. Find the perimeter.

4. Roy enclosed a vegetable garden with a fence. The four sides of the garden
measure 10 m, 8 m, 9 m, and 12 meters, respectively. How long is the fence? 5.
An equilateral triangular park has a perimeter equal to the perimeter of a
rectangular garden whose length is 25 m and whose width is 20 m. Find the
measurement of the sides of the triangular park.
