Reflection

The attached distance learning module is a five-day, 7th grade Language Ars lesson on

perspective. The lesson is designed to be modified to be taught in-person, in a synchronous

environment, or in an asynchronous one. As a teacher, when designing lessons, we try to create

things that we can reuse and with today’s constantly changing world of education, that means

something that can be done in any environment. As a technology coach, we want to encourage

our mentees to become comfortable using technology regardless of the learning environment.

The module was designed to include a whole group portion followed by a collaborative

assignment. The module starts with a synchronous lesson where the teacher discusses the story

of “The Three Little Pigs” and then shares with the class “The True Story of the Three Little

Pigs” which tells the story from the perspective of the Wolf. The story can be shared by either

sharing the teacher’s screen with the class or by distributing it ahead of time on the LMS

allowing for students to access it on their own computer. After hearing the story, students will be

given a link to Padlet where they will be required to respond to a post about how the two

perspectives vary. The responses on the discussion board can be monitored by the teacher, based

on the settings they choose to use; the teacher can require students’ posts to be approved and

profanities to be blocked. The next part of the project can be synchronous or asynchronous

depending on the teacher’s preference. Students are put in breakout groups on Teams in a

synchronous environment and will work together to complete a collaborative PowerPoint

retelling the story of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears from the perspective of an assigned

character. In an asynchronous environment, the project could be completed independently, or

each student can be responsible for completing their assigned slide by a set due date making sure

to read the whole story prior to submission to make sure it flows. By completing the retelling

collaboratively, not only will students understand how a character’s perspective can change a

story, but also how to balance different perspectives from their peers. Students must find a way

to put all group members’ perspectives together to create one story.

As a technology coach, when working with educational stakeholders to create learning

modules for students or staff communication and collaboration are key. With the internet and

social media at our fingertips, we can work with teachers around the world as easily as we can

work with those in our own districts. Social media gives us access to professional learning

networks made up of coaches and teachers from all over the globe to help us learn about new

digital tools and to provide a wealth of new ideas. In turn, we can share what we learn with

members of our own community through discussion boards, team meetings, zoom conversations,

and shared online folders. Whether we are in person or virtual, a teacher or a coach there’s

always a community there to help us.
