LIST OF CRITICAL MATH COMPETENCIES WHICH MAY BE ADDRESSED BY THE INTERVENTION

GRADE 1

Target competencies to be mastered by the learner:


1. Rote counting from 1-100
2. Rational counting from 1 – 100
3. Visualizing numbers 1-100 with the integration of regrouping groups of ones to tens
4. Recognizing numerals 1- 100
5. Writing numerals 1- 100
6. Adding 1-digit by 1-digit numbers using counters.
7. Adding 1-digit by 2-digit numbers using counters.
8. Adding 2-digit by 2-digit numbers using counters.
9. Adding 1-digit by 1-digit numbers without the aid of counters.
10. Adding 1-digit by 2-digit numbers without regrouping, without the aid of counters.
11. Adding 2-digit by 2-digit numbers (up to the sum of 100 only) without regrouping, without the
aid of counters.
12. Adding 1-digit by 2-digit numbers with regrouping, with the aid of counters.
13. Adding 1-digit by 2-digit numbers with regrouping, without the aid of counters.
14. Adding 2-digit by 2-digit numbers (up to the sum of 100 only) with regrouping, without the aid
of counters.
15. Adding any numbers (up to the sum of 100 only) with & without regrouping, without the aid of
counters.
16. Subtracting one-digit numbers with minuends up to 99 using counters.
17. Subtracting two-digit numbers with minuends up to 99 using counters.
18. Subtracting one digit numbers with minuends up to 99 without regrouping, without the aid of
counters.
19. Subtracting two-digit numbers with minuends up to 99 without regrouping, without the aid of
counters.
20. Subtracting one-digit numbers with minuends up to 99 with regrouping, without the aid of
counters.
21. Subtracting two-digit numbers with minuends up to 99 with regrouping, without the aid of
counters.

GRADE 2

Target competencies to be mastered by the learner:


1. Rote counting 1- 100
2. Skip counting by hundreds 100 – 1000
3. Visualizing numbers 1 – 1000
4. Reading & recognizing numerals 1-1000
5. Writing numerals.
6. Adding 1-digit by 1-digit numbers without the aid of counters.
7. Adding 1-digit by 2-digit numbers without regrouping, without the aid of counters.

8. Adding 2-digit by 2-digit numbers without regrouping, without the aid of counters.
9. Adding 2-digit by 3-digit numbers (with sum up to 1000) without regrouping, without the aid of
counters.
10. Adding 3-digit by 3-digit numbers (with sum up to 1000) without regrouping, without the aid of
counters.
11. Adding 1-digit by 2-digit numbers with regrouping, without the aid of counters.
12. Adding 2-digit by 2-digit numbers (up to the sum of 100 only) with regrouping, without the aid
of counters.
13. Adding 2-digit by 3-digit numbers (up to the sum of 1000 only) with regrouping, without the aid

10 by 2, 3, 4, 5, & 10 with the aid of counters.
23. Multiplying numbers 1 to 10 by 2, 3, 4, 5, & 10 without the aid of counters. / Mental
multiplication
24. Visualizing division of numbers up to 100 by 2, 3, 4, 5 & 10 (multiplication table of 2, 3, 4, 5 & 10)
/ Dividing numbers up to 100 by 2, 3, 4, 5 & 10 with the aid of counters
25. Dividing numbers up to 100 by 2, 3, 4, 5 & 10 without the aid of counters. / Mental division
(Very important notes: If based on your observation there is a real need to go back to
competency nos. 5 - 8 in grade 1, then include those competencies here.)

GRADE 3

Target competencies to be mastered by the learner:


1. Skip counting by 10’s up to 100, by 100’s up to 1000, & by 1000’s up to 10,000.
2. Visualizing numbers 1 – 10,000, with emphasis on 1,001 – 10,000.
3. Reading & recognizing numerals 1-10,000 with emphasis on 1001 – 10,000
4. Writing numerals.
5. Adding up to 4-digit numbers with & without regrouping,
6. Subtracting up to 4-digit numbers from up to 4-digit numbers with & without regrouping.
7. Multiplying numbers 1 to 10 by 2, 3, 4, 5, & 10 without the aid of counters. / Mental
multiplication

8. Visualizing multiplication of numbers 1 to 10 by 6, 7, 8, & 9
9. Multiplying numbers 1 to 10 by 1 to 10.
10. Dividing numbers up to 100 by 2, 3, 4, 5 & 10 without the aid of counters. / Mental division
11. Visualizing division of numbers up to 100 by 6, 7, 8, & 9/Dividing with the aid of counters.
12. Dividing numbers up to 100 by 1 to 10.
(Very important notes: If based on your observation there are critical competency/ies in
Grades 1 & 2 that should be included here, then include it. Remember always that the
competencies in the lower grades are pre-requisite competencies in the current grade.)

GRADE 4 - 6

Target competencies to be mastered by the learner:


1. Reading & writing numbers up to 100,000.
2. Adding up to 4-digit numbers with & without regrouping,
3. Subtracting up to 4-digit numbers from up to 4-digit numbers with & without regrouping.
4. Multiplying numbers 1 to 10 by 1 to 10.
5. Multiplying up to 3-digit numbers by up to 2-digit numbers without or with regrouping.
6. Dividing numbers up to 100 by 1 to 10.
7. Dividing up to 4-digit numbers by up to 2-digit numbers without and with regrouping.
(Very important notes: If based on your observation there are critical competency/ies in
Grades 1 -3 that should be included here, then include it. Remember always that the
competencies in the lower grades are pre-requisite competencies in the current grade.)

Notes for Grades 1- 6: If the period allotted for the implementation of the intervention may still
warrant, the intervention may extend to cover competencies in fractions, decimal, integers, etc.

GRADE 7 - 10

Target competencies to be mastered by the learner:


1. Reading & writing numbers up to 100,000.
2. Adding up to 4-digit numbers with & without regrouping,
3. Subtracting up to 4-digit numbers from up to 4-digit numbers with & without regrouping.
4. Multiplying numbers 1 to 10 by 1 to 10.
5. Multiplying up to 3-digit numbers by up to 2-digit numbers without or with regrouping.
6. Dividing numbers up to 100 by 1 to 10.
7. Dividing up to 4-digit numbers by up to 2-digit numbers without and with regrouping.

Notes for Grades 7 - 10: Mastery of the 7 listed competencies must be ensured first. Afterwards, the
teacher-implementer may now extend to other specific grade level competencies deemed critical by
the teacher.
