TRANSMITTAL INFORMATION
1. PLANNING INFORMATION
A. Effectivity
This Service Bulletin applies to CFM56-7B engines that have operated more than
50 percent of their departures from within India.

B. Description
C. Compliance
Category 2
CFM recommends that you do this Service Bulletin as soon as possible without
effect on revenue service but with the criteria that follows:
This Service Bulletin is offered to improve the reliability or performance of your CFM
product, or to help prevent the occurrence of the event or condition described in this
Service Bulletin. If the operator elects not to participate in the bulletin, that decision
will be taken into consideration by CFM in evaluating future product performance
issues that may arise in the operator’s fleet.
D. Concurrent Requirements
None.
E. Reason
(1) Objective:
High air temperatures and sand, dust, and dirt ingested into the engine core
of the engine have been observed to accelerate the HPT blade airfoil LE
oxidation and cracking that can lead to airfoil separations.
(3) Cause:
Sand, dust, and dirt ingestion into the engine core from continuous operation
in India. For HPT blades that meet the defined India operation cyclic criteria
and are then removed and repaired during engine shop visit, the fatigue
damage accumulated is not eliminated by component repair. The fatigue
damage will continue to accumulate once returned to operation.
(4) Inspection:
(5) Substantiation:
The technical content of this Service Bulletin is approved by the FAA and under the
Authority of DOA No. EASA.21J.086.
G. Manpower
After you get access to the HPT module or HPT blades, you will need approximately
1.5 man-hours to do the inspection portion of this Service Bulletin.

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A. General
(1) For CFM56-7B engines operating more than 50 percent of their departures
from within India, do the on-wing inspection task that follows:
set for this environment. Do this task again at 5,600 cycles and then
at intervals of 400 cycles thereafter.
2 For all other engine series: Start no later than 6,400 accumulated
cycles on the oldest HPT blade in the set for this environment. Do
this task again at 7,200 cycles, 8,000 cycles, and then at intervals
of 400 cycles thereafter.
(c) Deleted.
(2) For CFM56-7B engines that operated within India and are routed for shop
visit, do as follows:
(a) If the HPT blades have accumulated more than 5,000 cycles since new
(CSN) of operation and 2,500 or more of the total flight departures
were from within India, when routed for repair, request inspection of
the leading edge internal rib for evaluation of crack initiation and repair
acceptability as specified in RD 150-1551. To make sure that the repair
facility knows that the inspection is necessary, request inspection in
RD 150-1551 be done on your repair request documentation. The
HPT blades that pass CFM56-7B ESM serviceability inspections and
the inspections as specified in RD 150-1551 will be identified by an X
marked after the cycle count identification. For these HPT blades, when
returned to operation, use the on-wing borescope inspection interval as
specified in paragraphs 3.A.(1)(a)3 and 3.A.(1)(a)4.
