Module 11 Activity

Gagne's conditions of learning outlines nine instructional events that provide an effective framework for lesson planning: 1) Gain attention - Engage students through an interesting opening activity. 2) Inform learners of objectives - Clearly state the learning goals. 3) Stimulate recall of prior learning - Activate students' background knowledge. 4) Present the content - Use examples and multimedia to introduce new material. 5) Provide learning guidance - Offer guidance and support as students practice skills. 6) Elicit performance - Ask students to demonstrate their understanding. 7) Provide feedback - Give feedback to reinforce correct responses and address errors. 8) Assess performance - Evaluate

gagne’s conditions of learning

In this module challenge yourself to attain the following learning

outcomes.

• explain condition of learning

• make a simple lesson outline ( Teaching sequence) doing Gagnes

instruction events.

• articulate the benefits of using Gagnes principles in teaching.

Before reading the entire module, see if you can arrange the nine steps in lesson
presentation (instructional events) in their proper order. Read and arrange the steps by
numbering them, form groups of 5 for this activity.

____5______1. Guidance of students performance.

____3______2. Recall prior learning.

_____9_____3. Enhance retention and transfer.

___1_______4. Gain attention.

___7_______5. Provide feedback

___8_______6.Asses performance.

___4 _______7. Present stimulus.

___6_______8. Elicit performance.

___2_______9. Identify the object.

Each group writes its arrangement on the board for comparison and discussion,
Each group explains and justifies the arrangement. For discussion, the teacher asks the
class which of the arrangement presented on the board is correct? Why?

The arrangements above is correct, because first it starts through gaining the attention
of the learners in order to be able to know if the learners are ready to pay attention before a
teacher can proceeds with the discussion. Second, identifying the objective so that the
learner will be able to know what are the expected learning they will learn from the
lesson. Third, is recalling prior learning which will be like a review to everyone so that the
teacher can also adjust his/her instruction or for them to assess the learner of their existing
knowledge. Fourth, the teacher can already start their proper discussion or instruction through
presenting stimulus. Fifth, remaining steps guidance of students performance. Sixth,
elicit performance. Seventh, provide feedback. Eighth, performance which will be done
before the end of instructions to be able to know if the objectives been achieve or the
students learn and finally enhance retention and transfer this is for students to master
what they learn objectives been achieve or the students learn and last, enhance retention
and transfer this is for students to master what they learn.
1. Discuss what you perceive as the advantages and disadvantages of using
Gagne’s instructional events in lesson planning.

Advantages

The theory of Gagne’s is very important and very interesting because , it practices systematic in
nature and it provides a sequence of events and practical application to make it simple to follow
a process to get a desired result . That seem to follow a logical order and it gives us better
understanding to achieve a desired outcome . You can also adjust to reach the different
learning modalities .Gagne’s theory can be adapted to suit the needs of every learner.

Disadvantages

Sometimes , the steps require a lot of guided assistance when teaching new skills and there
are steps that require critical thinking where the outcome could go more than one way . There
may be one confusion or difficulties in teaching or learning this steps . This can possibly create
a learner that isn't likely to explore ways of problem solving . This creating a learner that
vary depend on a guided information . Some instruction or design see this approach as
more boring and least challenging method of instructional design.

Section: BEED 1-A__________

Choose a topic with a particular lesson objective in any grade or year level. Make
a teaching technique sequence applying Gagne’s nine instructional events. Use the table
provided for you.
Topic: The Circulatory System

Objective: To help students understand the Circulatory System.

Grade/Year level: Grade 5

Event of Instruction Lesson Example/Conditions of Learning

1. Gaining Attention The teacher plays a video clip about circulatory
system and present it informative
2. Informing the learner of The teacher and show in the slide the lesson

the Objective objectives and explain it

3. Stimulating Recall of Prior The teacher asking random questions from the

Learning last topic

4. Presenting the Stimulus Teacher discussing the concepts of circulatory

system
5. Providing Learner Teacher give a rubric on student’s activity on

Guidance which they will make a slogan about circulatory

system
6. Eliciting Performance The students will have a group discussion and
sharing
7. Giving Feedback Teacher personalized a written feedback on the
activity they conducted.
8. Assessing Performance Teacher will conduct a quiz about the circulatory
system
9. Enhancing Retention and Teacher will ask the students to search the

Transfer importance of circulatory to our body

1. Explain Gagne’s conditions of Learning.
Gagne’s theory deals with all aspects of learning and asserts that there are several
different types or levels of learning. Furthermore, the theory implies that each different
type of learning calls for different types of instruction. Gagne named five categories of
learning: verbal information, intellectual skills, cognitive strategies, motor skills
and attitudes and it has nine instruction; gaining attention, informing the learner
of the objectives, stimulating recall of prior learning, presenting the stimulus,
providing learner guidance, eliciting performance, giving feedback, assessing
performance, and enhancing retention and transfer these serve as basis for the
sequencing of instruction. Distinct internal and external conditions are required for each
type of learning. For instance, for cognitive strategies to be learned, there must be an
opportunity for problem solving; to learn attitudes, the learner must exposed to credible
role model or arguments that are convincing and moving.

2. Make simple lesson outline (teaching sequence) using Gagne’s instruction events.
Lesson: Arts
Year/ grade level: Grade 2
Gain attention – The teacher will give each students a shapes and they need to identify
what shape, color, style and texture it is
Identify objective – pose question: what is strategy did you use to finding the answers
Recall prior learning – review the parts of the object
Present stimulus – give definitions about the Human senses.
Guide learning – ask the learners to look for their surrounding and which of them have
the same color
Elicit performance – ask students to list down all the things they see
Provide feedback – check their output.
Assess performance – provide feedback and remediation (if necessary).Enhance
retention/transfer: show pictures of objects and let the students identify

3. Discuss how Gagne’s events of learning can help one to be an effective teacher.

Gagne’s events of learning is very helpful to be an effective teacher since, it is a systematic

process that help teachers to develop their strategies and provides a great deal of valuable
information to teachers. Applying Gagne’s nine-step model is an excellent way to ensure an
effective and systematic learning program as it gives structure to the lesson plans and a
holistic view to the teaching
From the module on Gagne’s condition of learning, I realized that learning about Gagne’s
condition of learning is very important to us as a future educator because , this will help us to
present our lessons in a logical and systematic manner . Gagne’s have five categories of
learning which are the , verbal information , intellectual skills , cognitive strategies , motor skills
and attitudes . Gagne’s has also have 9 instruction , the gaining attention , informing the
learner of the objectives , stimulating recall of prior learning , presenting the stimulus ,
providing learner guidance , eliciting performance , giving feedback , assessing performance ,
and enhancing retention and transfer this serve as basis of the sequencing of instruction . This
instruction served as guides of teacher in teaching. It is also important that in teaching we
must have a proper sequence of instruction to be able to have an effective and efficient
teaching learning process. Lastly, I would be able an effective teacher if I able to teach my
learners effectively through proper planning and designing instructions, assessing my
learners and following the right steps in teaching or the instruments of the events.
