IV General Requirements
All qualification tests shall be carried out at no cost to Saudi Aramco. The RUS
shall decide if the data presented by the Supplier satisfies the requirements of the
tests outlined below. Once the coating is approved, there is no requirement for
each applicator to requalify the coating.
The Vendor's coating procedure shall be approved by the RUS prior to coating.
A previously approved procedure does not require reapproval on subsequent jobs
as long as it is unchanged.
The following paragraph numbers refer to ASTM A775/A775M - 97, which is part of this
specification. The text in each paragraph below is an addition, exception, modification,
or deletion to ASTM A775/A775M - 97 as noted. Paragraph numbers not appearing in
ASTM A775/A775M - 97 are new paragraphs to be inserted in numerical order.
5.2 (Addition) The Vendor shall run gel time and moisture content tests for each
batch of powder prior to use. A record shall be kept for at least 1 year of the test
results in a form suitable to the Saudi Aramco Inspector.
5.5 (New) Blasting abrasives shall be steel shot, steel grit, or other commercial
abrasives having less than 100 ppm sulfates and chlorides. The Vendor shall

furnish chemical test analysis certificates for each batch of abrasive used.
5.6 (New) The use of reclaimed powder shall not exceed the manufacturer's
recommendations and in no case shall it be greater than 10% by weight without
written approval from the RUS.
6.1 (Addition) The temperature of the steel reinforcing bars shall be at least 3°C
above the dew point during abrasive blasting.
8 (Addition) Tests listed under this paragraph are normal quality control tests
performed by the applicator at his plant on a continuing basis (see paragraph 8.4).
8.6 (New) FBE cure shall be tested by applying MEK to a clean, white cloth and
lightly rubbing a small area of the coated bar. There shall be no evidence of
color on the white cloth after rubbing for one minute.
ANNEX
(Addition) These tests apply only to the initial product qualification of the coating.
They are not required of applicators for previously approved coatings. An applicator
may have a product tested at his expense for qualification purposes if it has not been
previously qualified.
